My name is Jeana, and I do a considerable amount of desktop support both for friends (pro bono) and people who will pay me to do it (yay - beating Win 95 into submission all those years ago has paid off!). When looking into new and troubling problems, this forum has often come up in Google as users post similar issues.
I have a great deal of admiration for the volunteers here. You all are very knowledgeable, and have made almost idiot-proof instructions to help people fix complicated computer problems in a medium where you never meet face-to-face - this is immensely impressive!
I'd like to learn more about the steps you all take, the programs you use, and what you look for in log files. I do pretty well helping people out with what I do know, but the structured support on bleepingcomputer makes me aspire to get better! Is there an orientation area for people who are interested in learning to volunteer rather than needing help themselves?
If I can master your processes, I'd like to help contribute with troubleshooting - eliminating obnoxious and dangerous malware is a lofty and worthwhile goal, and I'd be glad to be a part of the solution
Hope to get to know some of you all as I wander around the fora!
