Hello, found your site after trying to remove/fix the problem by myself. Wish I knew about you guys before I went through all the steps I've already taken. Hope you can help.

My internet speed is fine. I am experiencing Google redirects to various advertisement sites and antivirus-removal sites. I am also experiencing something that sounds like a radio station playing over my speakers. When I load up anything on the internet, any site, it takes an extremely long time to load. I assume it has something to do with the malware I cannot remove or the loads of anti-virus/malware removal I have downloaded to fix the problem.

I have been using (and pay for) Advanced System Care 5, Norton 360. Trying to resolve the issue myself I have recently started using Spybot and Ad-Aware and when I got frustrated I added Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, SuperAntispyware Professional, Kapersky Security Scan, Norton Power Eraser and even ran ComboFix once. Yes, I'm sorry, I should have gone to the professionals but I didn't know about you guys until now. My programs have removed a number of tracking cookies and I believe it is Spybot that keeps locating something called iCrossrider that it removes frequently.

Other than the issues above, my computer is running fine.

My documents are attached. Please note that GMER did not find anything and did not produce a log. I was only able to save a blank Ark.txt file.

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!

My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of us

  • Please do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
    • We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability.
  • Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
    • Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post.
  • Please read every post completely before doing anything.
    • Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process.
  • Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
    • A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.
NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the Watch Topic Button, select Immediate Notification, and click on Proceed. This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster.

NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of hartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer.

NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions.

DeFogger:

  • Please download DeFogger to your desktop.

    Double click DeFogger to run the tool.
  • The application window will appear
  • Click the Disable button to disable your CD Emulation drivers
  • Click Yes to continue
  • A 'Finished!' message will appear
  • Click OK
  • DeFogger may ask you to reboot the machine, if it does - click OK
Do not re-enable these drivers until otherwise instructed.

-AdwCleaner-

  • Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
  • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click on Delete.
  • Confirm each time with Ok.
  • Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
  • Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.

--RogueKiller--

  • Download & SAVE to your Desktop RogueKiller or from here
  • Quit all programs that you may have started.
  • Please disconnect any USB or external drives from the computer before you run this scan!
  • For Vista or Windows 7, right-click and select "Run as Administrator to start"
  • For Windows XP, double-click to start.
  • Wait until Prescan has finished ...
  • Then Click on "Scan" button
  • Wait until the Status box shows "Scan Finished"
  • click on "delete"
  • Wait until the Status box shows "Deleting Finished"
  • Click on "Report" and copy/paste the content of the Notepad into your next reply.
  • The log should be found in RKreport[1].txt on your Desktop
  • Exit/Close RogueKiller+

Hi Gringo.

Thank you for helping out.

I ran DeFogger, AdwCleaner and RogueKiller, reports are below.

Update 1 - I was unable to use Internet Explorer as it kept encountering a problem, shutting down and then freezing my system.

Update 2 - After running DeFogger, AdwCleaner and RogueKiller, I am still experiencing Google Redirects when using Mozilla Firefox.

Hello

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links. I want you to save it to the desktop and run it from there.
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?

Hello Gringo.

* Downloaded ComboFix.
* Disabled all anti-virus and anti-malware.
* (Did not disable firewall as instructions did not tell me to do so.)
* Turned off all programs that were running.
* Ran ComboFix.

Please note that ComboFix did not produce a report.

I am still experiencing Google Redirects.

Regards,

Eric

Hello Gringo.

* Downloaded ComboFix.
* Disabled all anti-virus and anti-malware.
* (Did not disable firewall as instructions did not tell me to do so.)
* Turned off all programs that were running.
* Ran ComboFix.
* ComboFix log is pasted below.

After the report ran, the "radio station" played for about 10 seconds and stopped. This happened twice.

Opened up Firefox and tried a Google search. I am still experiencing Google Redirects. This time the redirect tried to take me to http://heightage.net/.

Regards,

Eric

Hi Gringo.

Thanks for your patience.

Update - as soon as I signed on, I heard that "radio station". I wasn't even in a browser.
Update 2 - downloading appeared slow - this page took over a minute to completely download.

* Downloaded TDSSKiller.
* Downloaded aswMBR.

Please note that neither program will run. I double-clicked to run them and nothing happens. Stopped trying after 20 minutes. Can this have anything to do with the drivers that were stopped with Defogger? I don't know, just asking because I don't understand why they wont run.

Regards,

Eric

Greetings

I need you to make a bootable usb and to make a screenshot for me - follow the instructions below to do this

How to create a bootable Puppy USB Drive

  • Download and save a copy of the latest Puppy ISO file
  • Download and save a copy of Unetbootin for Windows.
  • Insert an empty formatted USB drive into a USB port on the computer that's being used to create the bootable USB.
  • Launch Unetbootin ....
  • Ensure that Disk Image is selected.
  • Using the browse button ... browse to and select the Puppy ISO file.
  • Ensure that Type: is set to USB Drive and that the Drive: letter corresponds to the USB drive.
  • Click OK
Unetbootin will now copy the Puppy files to the USB and make it a bootable device.

Next

You need to change the boot order of the computer to boot from a USB drive ....

  • Read HERE for instructions how to do this.

Now boot into Puppylinux

when you get to the desktop Click on each of the drive items found in the bottom left corner to mount them (when mounted they will have a red cross next to them)

Next - Launch GParted which is found at Menu > System > GParted partition manager,
Click to select All Drives then click Okay
I need you to take a screenshot of the window that opens up - to do this follow these instructions

To take a screenshot in Puppy ....

With the GParted window open ...

  • Click menu > Graphic > mtPaint-snapshot screen capture
  • A small window will open ....

    • Click Capture Now
    • Click OK
  • The mtPaint program will open ....
    • Click File > Save
    • Double click on ../
    • Double click on mnt/
    • Double click on sdb1/
    • Set File Format to JPEG
    • Enter screenshot1 into the text box
    • Click OK

This will save a file screenshot1.jpeg into the USB drive, paste or attach this to your next post

Next

  • Click menu > shutdown > power off computer
  • If prompted to save the session click on No

Puppy will now close down.

remove the usb and save it - we will use it again - boot back into windows and send me the screen capture

Hello Gringo.

Sorry for the delay..work commitments and needed to buy a flash drive.

Update - No change in computer performance. Still hearing the "radio station" that plays for 10 seconds then stops. Still experiencing Google redirects.

* Downloaded Unetbootin
* Downloaded PuppyISO
* Followed instruction to create a boot drive on usb flash drive

Attached is my screenshot.

Thanks for your help with this, really appreciate it. When finished, would love to hear your personal thoughts about what Operating System, Anti-Virus, etc. you recommend.

Greetings

I want you to boot back into Gparted and right click on the first partition (SDA1) and select manage flags - then select boot

exit out of GParted and report back to me

NOTE** if you have problems booting after putting the boot flag on SDA1 then move it to SDA2

Success! :thumbsup:

Gringo,

SDA1 did not work, put me into Diagnostic mode. SDA2 worked.

Update - used Google and Bing in all 3 browsers (Chrome, Firefox and IE) and there were no redirects. Have not heard any radio station yet either.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Eric

Also wanted to add that the searches were very very fast.

Hi Gringo.

I deleted the SDA3 and rebooted.

No Google or Bing redirects. However, web pages are loading up very slowly now. This page loaded up in "text" format instead of HTML. I had to hit 'refresh' for it to load up in HTML format with frames.

Awaiting your next instructions. Looks like we are almost there.

Eric
