Windows 7 Windows Explorer Interferencel

For the past several months my Windows 7 MSI 32/64 Bit Laptop has a problem with the touchpad (i guess that' what its called) to use instead of the mouse keeps coming on even though I have turned it off. i can't find anyway to just disable it completely or even delete it from my computer so i continually have to do the Fn F3 keystrokes to turn it off.

One reason I want the touchpad turned off is it has a way of interfering and its been doing that. I'm typing away not looking at the screen necessarily when I look up to discover I'm not typing on the screen the touch mouse pad thing has come on again and seems as though I'm typing in some hidden command area perhaps - typing for sure but can't see it.

Since that happened now the resulting problem is that whenever I type anything into the Windows Explorer Search All Files and Programs Box it hangs up everything and I get a message saying "Windows Explorer is not responding" and it gives me choices to shut down, wait for it to work or stop the program. But sometimes i don't get any choices except to beforced to just shut the machine down and start over which is a total pain but I believe it is connected to the touch/mousepad difficulty at least that's how it got started.

How can i figure out what specifically has happened so that I can fix it. This has been going on for over a month and I do like to use that search box like for troubleshoot etc. so anyone have any ideas what the problem is and suggestions to fix? :dance:

mini toolbox

Checkmark following boxes:

List last 10 Event Viewer log
List Installed Programs
List restore points

Click Go and post the result.

Click on startmenu and type

cmd

Right click on it and select run as administrator and run this command

chkdsk /r

Click Y to schedule it on reboot

Restart the PC ,chkdsk should run now

After system boots up check if search feature works.If that doesnt help

Launch command prompt with admin rights again and run this command

sfc /scannow

After scan finishes let me know if it was able to fix corrupted files

Checkmark following boxes:

List last 10 Event Viewer log
List Installed Programs
List restore points

Click Go and post the result.

Click on startmenu and type

cmd

chkdsk /r

Click Y to schedule it on reboot

Restart the PC ,chkdsk should run now

After system boots up check if search feature works.If that doesnt help

Launch command prompt with admin rights again and run this command

sfc /scannow

After scan finishes let me know if it was able to fix corrupted files

Sorry - I cannot do the chkdsk command as it causes the error with Windows Explorer?

I tried doing the command prompt through the Administrative Tools but the same thing happens with Explorer hanging up? :mellow:

how do I do safemode? I have been trying to do safemode on my apple desktop unsuccessfully as well. No luck there.

what luck for me 2 computers both screwed up.

Try the check this way and not using the Command Prompt -

Run a Disk Check on your C: drive in Windows
:

•Click Start Orb and open Computer

Right-click on C:(or your main drive letter) and select Properties

•Click on the Tools tab

•Under Error-checking click the Check Now... button

•Tick the 2 boxes next to Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors

•Click on the Start button

•When the message box pops up, click the Schedule disk check button and then >> restart your computer

Once your computer restarts it will check the drive, don't press any keys so that it is allowed to do so

This can take on averge 1 hour, so please let all 5 stages run - Your computer will reboot back to normal screen when finished -

Safe mode for your Mac
OS X Lion: To start up in safe mode
Starting up in “safe mode” may help you to diagnose problems you’re having with your computer.
Note: To print these instructions, open the Help Viewer’s Action pop-up menu (looks like a gear) and choose Print.
1. Shut down your computer and wait at least 10 seconds.
2. Press the power button.
3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key.
You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after you hear the startup tone, but not before.
4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator (spinning gear).

To leave safe mode, restart the computer normally without holding down any keys during startup.

Hmmmm, Ii did what you suggest - setting the computer for checkup on restarting.

It restarted and said something about checking disk which lasted about 2 minutes and then my system came on and now I'm here typing to you.

I must have missed something maybe I will try again.

If you wish me to NOT quote the entire text why not give me a reason for doing it your way as opposed to issuing edicts.

Why do I make this request? Because for one thing its much more courteous. You see, I say why I want you to do something as opposed to your just saying DO IT.

As to results/response:

I did re-try and was successful - as you said it took around an hour or so.

However, Windows Explorer still hangs up when i try to use the search box at the bottom of the page.

Not sure what I did wrong the first time but 2nd time successful as to doing the chk

One reason I want the touchpad turned off is it has a way of interfering and its been doing that.

Let me set something straight here.

noknojon, as everyone else here, is a volunteer. That means he is helping you out of the goodness of his heart, not for money or any other form of compensation. As such, his job description does not include being accused of being discourteous or treating someone as a child when it is clearly not the case. He made a simple, logical and reasonable request, and it would be in your best interest to follow it. Why? Simple, because it will cut down on the amount of text he has to scroll through to get to your response, and thus improve his response time.
