Hello all!! I am attempting to install "Screen Recorder" from MS. When I do I get this msg, stating that it (Screen Recorder) requires Windows Media Encoder 9 64 bit version (I am running Win 7 HP 64 bit), to work, and asks if I would like to install it first. So I select yes, then the install package for Windows Media Encoder 9 64 bit gives me a "Software Compatablity" warning stating that it is not recommended that I have both the 32 bit version and the 64 bit version installed on the same computer. My question is; how do I know if I have the 32 bit version installed, I can't seem to find it anywhere, and am not sure if I do. I don't remember installing it, and I can't find it in Control Panel, Program Features?? SO what do I do now??

Thanks,
Confused

Hi -
Read this topic and follow the links provided by the M/soft forum answers, which seem to be right -
Is there a Windows Media Encoder for Windows 7? From answers.microsoft.com

The 64 bit version is available from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/AllDownloads.aspx.

Please download MiniToolBox, Save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following boxes:

•Flush DNS
•Report IE Proxy Settings
•Reset IE Proxy Settings
•Report FF Proxy Settings
•Reset FF Proxy Settings
•List content of Hosts
•List IP configuration
•List last 10 Event Viewer log
•List Installed Programs
List devices (Problem only)
•List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
•List Minidump Files

Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.
Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.
............. The program listings area of the scan may show if it is installed ................... -

Also - Download Security Check by Screen317 from HERE or HERE, and save it to your Desktop.
* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
* Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.
Note: If a security program requests permission to access the Internet, allow it to do so.

Thanks -

Ok here you go. I read the links and am wondering about the validity due to age of posts. Also am not sure if WME9 is being replaced by Expression Encoder, then why is it not part of a download I just did 2 hours ago. The Screen Recorder comes with both 32bit/64bit WME9, and it is when installing the Window Media Encoder that I get the Software Compatablity warning. I just built this new machine and everything went so well that I am not looking to mess it up just yet..lol.. The Screen Recorder is not something I absolutely NEED to have, just wanted to try it out for making some tutorials for a few clients.

Hi -
There seems to be a few items missing from the report, but please see above for Rogue killer
Do you have items like external drives installed that may contain the installed programs that you have downloaded, or do you download to Desktop ?
1 Drive c: () (Fixed) (Total:97.56 GB) (Free:61.36 GB) NTFS

Please note this posting that I found that may help explain some of the problems you have with Windows Media Encoder -
This is quoted as it was posted ---------

...... June 29, 2011 .....................................
Windows Media Encoder was replaced with Expression Encoder.
Download the latest version (4), and you shouldn't have any problem with using it on Windows 7.

See how this works -

Well I downloaded the Expression Encoder from the link, and downloaded & installed the .Net Framework 4 prior to installing Expression Encoder, and it seems to all work fine. So when someone gets back to me concerning why I needed to run RogueKiller I will mark this as solved. Let me know what you find out from RogueKiller..

Thanks for you assistance!
Scott
