error code 0146

I have a dell laptop that had windows 7 installed .Ran good for about 1-2 weeks .Now when you turn machine on it shows the windows logo then goes black,all you can do is move cursor around but all black screen .got into utilities ran diagnostic test .came back with error code 0146. hard drive.Does that mean the HD needs to be replaced or can computer be saved.

Hi -
I searched the vatious forums and links to this error 0146 and found only 1 continuing response to it -

From the Dell forums error bank >>
Error 0146 indicates a failed / failing hard drive or bad drive sector. This means your hard drive will need to be replaced.

If the computer is under warranty then take it back and do not play with it -
