hello,

I have xp media center sp2 on dell lat d600
i run SAV corp (up to date defs)
ad-aware se
spybot
hardware firewall
ewido (free)
CCleaner

I launched an exe by mistake and caught(gave myself) a trojan
i've found a couple unsettling things in the two days i've been cleaning this box...
I followed the guide and have run all apps listed in safe mode and standard mode
so far i've found C:\windows\msnmgr.exe and deleted it
SAV keeps finding rdriv.sys and is poping messages every two seconds.
I read other various posts concerning this but I just would like some more eyes to be certain I'm clean...
Here you go
and thanks

Hello Netadmin and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. Please print these directions and then proceed with the following steps in order.

Step #1

Download the following programs, but do not run them yet:
  • rdrivRem.zip
    • Unzip it to your desktop.
  • Ewido Security Suite
    • Install ewido security suite
    • Launch ewido, there should be a big E icon on your desktop, double-click it.
    • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
    • The program will now go to the main screen
    • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click Update
    • Click on Start
    • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed
    • After the updates are installed exit Ewido.
  • ATF Cleaner by Atribune
Step #2

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Step #3
  • Go into the rdrivrem folder and double-click rdrivRem.bat to run the program - follow the instructions on the screen. After it's complete, rdriv.txt will be created in the rdrivRem folder.
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    • Under Main choose: [/b]Select All[/b]
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
    • If you use Firefox browser:
      • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
      • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
    • If you use Opera browser
      • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
      • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
    • Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
    • For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.
  • Double-click the Ewido Security Suite icon to run the program.
    • Click on Scanner
    • Click Complete System Scan
    • Let the program scan the machine
    • While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean the first infected file it finds. Choose remove, then put a check next to Perform action on all infections in the left corner of the box so you don't have to sit and watch Ewido the whole time. Click OK.
    • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save Report
    • Click Save Report
    • Save the report to your desktop
    • Exit Ewido
Step #4

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post the following logs/files back here:
  • HijackThis log
  • Ewido log
  • rdriv.txt file
I will review the information when it comes in.
