I have a Dell XPS 8300 desktop running Windows 7 Pro/Office 2010 Pro. I am not using that machine right now but a laptop to post this thread.

Back on September 11th or 12th my desktop computer installed a Windows Update and restarted. Upon login I found I had no internet connection. My desktop computer would recognize the router (NetGear) but could not connect to the internet.

I contacted Time Warner Cable thinking the issue was with my cable modem. I had already tried resetting the router and cable modem. The technician was unable to resolve my issue even after plugging the ethernet cable directly into the cable modem and trying several things using command prompt.

Today my desktop computer no longer recognizes any networks and tells me there are "no connections available".

My laptop still works fine and has no trouble using the router attached to the cable modem. This allows me to post here.

Using Device Manager I found issues with 4 network adapters. The internal Broadcom card reports no problems and "is working properly."

I have Code 39 on:

- Microsoft 6to4 Adapter
- Microsoft ISATAP Adapter
- Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface
- WAN Miniport (IKEv2)

I saw the post regarding ToolKit but I figured I would check here to see if I should download it using this computer and use a flash-drive to put it onto the desktop, and if so which options I should check.

Additional info:

I have searched on the internet for possible solutions and have found many possibilities. I can say I am not running any form of iTunes and I do not have Bonjour service. I looked up the TCPIP6 properties (per another forum) and could not find any disabled [components].

I have McAfee on that machine (provided by Dell) and oddly it reports on its homepage that Firewall is turned on and protecting my machine but when I click on Firewall and check settings it reports that firewall is turned off. Attempts to turn it on fail repeatedly. I am not sure if this is because of the driver issues.

I also have MalwareBytes (paid) installed and recently it reported that it was ready to install a new updated version. Now it fails to start and reports the Anti-Malware database is missing or corrupted.

Using Command Prompt I ran ipconfig/all and it reports:

Host Name....................: Edgar-2
Primary DNS Suffix...........:
Node Type....................: Hybrid
IP Routing Enabled...........: No
WINS Proxy Enabled...........: No

I would appreciate help. What is my next step towards resolving this issue?

I ran the programs. I stopped McAfee from running prior to running the requested programs.

The desktop is not connected to the cable modem currently so ping requests would not work.

Attachments don't seem to be allowed in this sub-forum so prepare for WALL OF TEXT.

I am confused by the latest response.

My desktop computer will not connect to the internet. How am I supposed to scan the explorer.exe file on that computer using that website? I am visiting bleepingcomputer using a nearby laptop and a micro 8GB flash drive to transfer files between the two computers.

Please elaborate on how I should proceed.

Sorry,never noticed it

Back on September 11th or 12th my desktop computer installed a Windows Update and restarted. Upon login I found I had no internet connection. My desktop computer would recognize the router (NetGear) but could not connect to the internet.

Do you have a restore point before this happened?

I forgot to mention in my first post that I attempted system restore (per suggestion from internet search) and I restored my system to a point approximately 1 month prior to the current situation (my oldest restore point). It failed to resolve the issue.

That restore point is prior to 3 different Windows Updates. I had hoped it would work. Sadly it did not.

Uninstall mcafee and see if you're able to connect.

I uninstalled McAfee Security Center.

I even read their recent message about issues with their product.

Upon Restart the computer fails to connect to the internet.

According to Network and Sharing Center:

"No network connections available."

"The dependency group or service failed to start."

"System error 2 has occurred."

"The system cannot find the file specified."

Incidentally, after the last post I attempted to activate Windows Firewall and it would not start saying, "Windows Firewall can't change some of your settings. Error code 0x80007042c"

I want to make sure I am doing the correct thing.

When I right click on the Broadcom device I have an option to uninstall the device. I additionally get a check-box to uninstall the driver software.

Am I uninstalling both the device and the driver software, or just the device?

Upon your response I will complete the steps you listed.
