RAM: at least 4 GB

Storage: at least 500 GB

no more than 6 pounds, at least 4 hours of battery life at hi-performance

No macs whatsoever

Samsung is one of those well known manufacturers that takes pride in making their products to be the best as they can be and their laptops and products are pretty reliable.

most computer/laptop makers make[ bad/lemons ] computer ,some just have better luck than others with there basic models

Toshiba make good laptops ,we own a 3 year old Toshibs ,never had a glitch in 3 years still running original install of Vista.

but haven said that I have been fixing peoples computer for about 14 years now [self taught ] and have garaged many laptop of all makes .

Lenovo have a good name as well as Asus ,Sony [?] my daughters[university student ] is almost 3 years old .

I personally hate Acer laptops ,just own one because it was free .

I know you didn't ask me but it could die next week ,[nobody could say for sure how long any computer will last] ,any laptop could ,I was in a computer shop the other day when a custome brought back a Toshiba i5 ,not sure of all the specs ,but total cost was 1400.00, I think that was including the docing station , anyway it severly over heated and crashed on him ,he only bought it 2 days befor .

Worth looking at: Asus Matte Dark Brown 15.6" K55A-RBR6 Laptop PC with Intel Core i5 Processor and 6GB Ram Memory and 750GB Hard Drive: Computers : Walmart.com

This Asus Matte Dark Brown 15.6" K55A-RBR6 Laptop PC with Intel Core i5 Processor and 6GB Ram Memory and 750GB Hard Drive includes your choice of:
  • 1 Cases and Bags
PRICE-----$499.00

Compared to the others listed above, at this price you can buy a couple extra batteries.

Since gaming or a lot of video editing is not required, you can go with a lot cheaper laptop. Really.

A dual core one in the $300 to $400 range would work. You could buy two of those over the years.

you cant do either of those things ,a lot of overheat issues are hardware related ,as for dropping it ,never a guarantee on that one ,good luck

if the video device in the laptop goes bad and airplane engine cooler is not going to make it work .

cooler pads only create air flow to help cool a laptop ,they don't really work !
