Here's my problem. Booted up this morning, got a blue screen with a message box telling me I needed to update my entire Windows program. I did so as requested, following their directions, and was told it was successful. When I rebooted, there is a box telling me the device driver for my video card needs to be updated. I did some checking of things on my own and found in my systems information files that the driver was "disabled"... so I called a tech I know and asked what to do. He said to reinstall. I tried but it said RPC not functioning. He tells me my OS is corrupted.
Is there any way of fixing this issue without spending $100 or more to have him fix it. My knowledge of PCs is so limited, if I've failed in my explanation, I am sorry.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Post the exact information you looked at on your system which asserted that the driver is disabled...and then...

Please download MiniToolBox , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic323892.html/page__p__1797792#entry1797792 .

There is no legitimate message that I know of that says you have to update your entire Windows program.

When I boot up my system I get a box telling me my ATI driver is missing or not loaded so please install now. However it shows in my programs that it is. I went to system information and under "Problem Devices" it said that the secondary driver for my ATI is disabled. I truly do not know that much about computers (I'm an elderly disabled woman living alone), so I am sorry for any misinformation.
Here is what you asked for from running the Mini Tool Box. I don't know what speccy is?

<<I don't know what speccy is?>>

Did you read the link I posted? How about the info on the program at the download website?

What model HP system is this, please?

This system is not an HP. It was custom built for me by a friend. My former PC was HP Pavillion and I know he copied files from the old system onto this one. Sorry I didn't follow the link the first for Speccy. I did download and ran it... here are the results

Thanks :).

I saw this among your errors:

Error: (09/13/2012 01:14:30 PM) (Source: Windows Product Activation) (User: )
Description: Due to hardware changes on this computer, you will need to reactivate your Windows product

Did you reactivate? Were there any hardware changes?

Go to Device Manager, uninstall the video drivers by scrolling down to Display Adapters and double-clicking. If your system shows two adapters, that's misleading :)...there's only one but it can support two monitors, so you really don't have two adapters. That's just the way ATI shows it, IME.

In any case...double-click each listed, click the Drivers tab...click Uninstall. For each item under Display Adapters. Then reboot the system.

I think that you have the wrong video drivers installed, for whatever reason. See http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=1&s=10&m=A7V400-MX .

After the system reboots, try to install the video drivers from the link above.

Thank you Louis for your help. I didn't have any hardware changes. It said I needed to reactivate within 3 days, so I reactivated. Then the ATI driver message started showing up at each reboot.
I know this sounds strange...but that's the way it is. I am going to follow your directions for uninstalling the adapters and reinstalling.
I've had this system, as is, for 2 1/2 years and this never happened before. This may be a silly question... but could the ATI device driver issue have been wrong from the beginning? I truly am stumped.
Going to follow your help... thank you so much. Will let you know how it all works out.

:o I opened the Device Manager and the entire page is blank! There is nothing there! Now what I should I do... call that tech who told me my OS is corrupted? Everything is working fine... Have I been hijacked?

I think that you need to talk to your tech...and find out why he made the diagnosis that he did.

File corruption...can be an indication of many things...including malware and/or hardware problems.

Based on what you have reported thus far...all I can gather is that your system is awry, for whatever reason.

:o I opened the Device Manager and the entire page is blank! There is nothing there! Now what I should I do... call that tech who told me my OS is corrupted? Everything is working fine... Have I been hijacked?
