Hi.

I tried ipconfig /displaydns and to my horror some porn sites were listed! Where did they come from? I've never visited any porn sites.

I then tried ipconfig /flushdns but it hasn't removed them.

Please does anyone know how they got there and how I can remove them permanently?

So far I don't see anything malicious.

Please download Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) to your desktop.
There are 2 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.
You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.

rKill.exe: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/10/
iExplore.exe (renamed rKill.exe): http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/11/

  • Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
  • If using Vista or Windows 7 right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator.
  • A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
  • If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
  • Do not reboot until instructed.
  • If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.

If normal mode still doesn't work, run the tool from safe mode.

When the scan is done Notepad will open with rKill log.
Post it in your next reply.

NOTE. rKill.txt log will also be present on your desktop.

Open it go Tools>Internet options>Advanced tab and click on "Reset" button.
Restart IE.

Also....

Go Start>Run (Start search in Vista), type in:
cmd
Click OK (Vista and Windows 7 users: while holding CTRL, and SHIFT, press Enter).

In Command Prompt window, type in following commands, and hit Enter after each one:
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
net stop "dns client"
net start "dns client"

Turn the computer off.

On your router, you'll find a pinhole marked "Reset".
Keep pushing the hole, using a pencil, or a paperclip until all lights briefly come off and on.
NOTE. Simple router disconnecting from a power source will NOT do.
Restart computer and check for redirections.

NOTE. You may need to re-check your router security settings, as described HERE

Run computer for couple of days and report back.

Have already tried resetting IE. Tried the prompts.. no luck.. icky sites still there so I tried blocking the 'software loopback interface' (subnet identifier) because the porn sites fall under that IP - no luck.

Have already tried resetting my router.. also rang my ISP today .. they changed the channel (not sure if that's the right word, can't remember) no luck!

Am kinda hoping that the reason pages are taking so long to load is because of the GoDaddy crash. My internet slooooowed down on Saturday for no reason. Once I get on the Norton website, loading is not a problem.. so there are inconsistencies.

Am going to read through the information about routers, that you posted, tomorrow - thank you for that.

Don't know what to do about cleaning out the dns cache though.. but very tired as it's now 2:30am. Thank you very much for your help.

:smilers:
