The desktop marquee tool keeps freezing when I drag to select multiple items on my desktop. It'll usually only freeze once and allow me to use it again normally, while the previous one is still frozen on the spot. It's not a big issue and it goes away after refreshing, but it is rather annoying. I've tried searching for a solution but to no avail.

Hi -
I may be mis-reading your problem a bit, but I have spent some time looking for the native XP tool relating to a desktop marquee tool -
These are normally addon programs that use a scrolling / moving background or changing desktop picture.

From all the Google searches, I can only find add-ons to create a Desktop Marque setup, and not a "native XP" system.
Having said this I am hoping a fellow member can add to this with a description that I can relate to -

If you spend a small time on Google and use the phrase desktop marquee tool (or similar), I hope you can understand what I mean -

Otherwise can you please describe the situation in another manner ??

Thank You -

I think they just meant that it freezes when dragging and dropping file on the desktop ,no tool being used ,just xp drag and drop

My answers are my opinion only, usually

Yes caperjac, that's what I meant sorry. I included a screenshot (the small box the arrow is pointing to is frozen while the one underneath is working normally). It's no big deal like I said but it is annoying lol.

yeah it no big deal ,but its caused by something ,looks like a real busy desktop ,the folders on the right are they short cuts or do you store file on the deskto .

ok,if it were mine I would create another acct ,just a temp one ,and see if the drag and drop freezes on it

I store file folders on the desktop occasionally for quick access. Just temporary lol. I tried another account and it didn't freeze at all.

so it could be just the desktop.ini file is getting to big/overloded , I think that's how it goes anyway ,I think it could cause the locking up .

Is there any way I can fix this?? I cleared the file folders off of the desktop but that hasn't changed anything.

So I'm guessing I can't do anything until I get the Windows CD?

give this a try . While running the "sfc /scannow" command if it prompts for the Windows XP CD for the path of the system files, please provide the following path:

"C:\I386"
or C:\windows\I386

may not work but worth a try
