Greetings

I want to start with this to see what it will show

Please print out or make a copy in notpad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links. I want you to save it to the desktop and run it from there.
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"

  • In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?

Hello

Lets get a deeper look into the system and see if something shows up.

Download and run OTL

Download OTL by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click on OTL.exe to run it.
  • Under Output, ensure that Minimal Output is selected.
  • Under Extra Registry section, select Use SafeList.
  • Click the Scan All Users checkbox.
  • Click on Run Scan at the top left hand corner.
  • When done, two Notepad files will open.
    • OTL.txt <-- Will be opened and the that I need posted back here
    • Extra.txt <-- Will be minimized - save this one on your desktop in case I ask for it later
  • Please post the contents of OTL.txt in your next reply.

Here is the resulting file from running OTL with the custom code you gave. I have never seemed to notice any
loss of performance, so the computer is acting normally. I'm still getting the same emails but nothing has
changed in their content except the WordPress url they're trying to send me to. Are you seeing anything to
indicate a keylogger or otherwise? (Thanks for the help G)

It started a couple days ago. I was getting email that went through one specific server of mine, (to 2 different email addresses on that server...so far),
and the subject line was always something like:
[Some Website Name] Your username and password. For example, here are some actual subject lines...

[Website Proxy] Your username and password
[Oh My Golly] Your username and password

The body of the email reads:
Username: 1234abcd
Password: 5678efgh
http://www.ohmygolly.net/wp-login.php

Here, I have changed the username and password because they are using a username I have used
often and a password I have used often. Until tonight, it was never the "right" combination. For example,
I have used username 1234abcd but with a password of 9999ijkl. Or used username 4321dcba with password 5678efgh.

Tonight they are pulling out new usernames and adding to the same passwords as always and they're hitting on
some combo's I do use. Nothing critical, yet, one is an old forum, one is an older advertising account and one is an
old affiliate program I don't use. But that's why my concern.

I wanted to make sure I had no loggers or other malwares so I can download some kind of app to encrypt or randomly
generate unique, one-time or stong user/pass combo's. I'm looking for something like lastpass.com, that's what my
host guy suggested.

When I sent the email to my host, he said his first thought was a keylogger. It could be it's not on my computer, it could
be an employee who has it and who has access to some log in information. I'm not sure. Before I did any kind of proactive
measure, I wanted to verify I didn't have that residing on my computer.

Thoughts? System look clean?

Hello

Is the sign in page something you sign in to?

is the email telling you to sign in this page with those credentials and it just happens to be some that you have used before.

the credentials seem very common and would not get to worked up over it.

The reports have not showed anything and keypass or something like it is always a good idea

No, not exactly. The page in the email is random. Who knows, maybe it's a lead in to malware or whatever, I'm not clicking the link in the email.
What I'm saying is the user/pass I "USED" in the example are not what is actually in the email. I'm not showing them here because I have used
the user name and password that is showing up here, in my inbox. There are a couple of log in sites where those two phrases in that combo
are what I use for login credentials. But those are older sites and not frequented but still ... where did MY user name and pass get into their hands?
I wanted to be sure it wasn't on this computer.

Now, it's just a matter of finding the right password client. But we're good to go then?

Oh boy, that looks a lot easier to use that lastpass. I'll check it out in the 'am. I'll be hittin' the tip jar too as usual because like I tell people, you can't get
this level of help on the things that really can ball up a computer from the geek squad or staples or from some SpeedMYPC on TV offer.

I'm going to do like you've mentioned and buy a lic for malwarebytes instead of the free one but also looking at security_essentials and winpatrol.com.
Any other's you use?

Thanks again.
