Hello, i have been having alot of trouble. I have windows 7 home premium 64 bit. I recently was infecting with some type of virus which started off by popping up saying i had system problems and i needed to download a program to fix it. It then proceded to spam me with error messages. I had to reboot in safe mode to do anything. I then ran malwarebytes and superantispyware, and microsoft essentials. This said it cleaned the virus out and allowed me to reboot regularly. After this i restored to my last restore point to get my start menu back which was basically deleted because of the virus. I thought it was fixed but then IE started redirecting all my searchs and even when my computer was idle, not doing anything at all but connected to internet, it would play random ads, the first was a chinease art ad, recenlty i have been hearing an ad for Obama!, and also plays a couple more ads. I ran malewarebytes and antispyware again but they could not find the virus. After looking at many forum posts and not being able to figure anything out i decided to just reinstall windows. I don't have the windows cd but i downloaded the windows 7 home premium 64 bit iso,x17 is how it starts now sure the full file name. I used the windows 7 USB/DVD device to make the iso into a bootable disk to install windows. I load the setup.exe and it starts off ok. It will install windows, then start expanding windows files and restart, but after restarting itself it comes up with the error, winpeshl.exe Application Error Unable to start correctly (oxcoooo142). Please help as i use my computer for everything work and school and i am getting really stressed and am about to throw my computer through my window. Plz let me know if a attach log scans or just post them in reply. Because i could not install windows correctly i just returned to a restore point where the virus is currecntly infecting my system because i do not have a clean restore point. Thank you.

I've been checking the forums and i'm not really sure but this topic sounded a little bit like my problem. Will following these instructions help me resolve my problem? http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic467447.html . I'm trying to get rid of thsi virus anyway possible and have not been able to figure out a way. I will reinstall windows if i have to but i need a tech to tell me what to do because i am afraid that doing anything futher could potentally cause futher problems. I know a little bit about computers but am in no way tech savy. Thanks

I've booted to safe mode, downloaded and installed RKill. Ran RKill then Malewarebytes-antimalewar which detected one thing. This was something that was recently download so not sure if this was the virus or not. I rebooted in safe mode ran Rill again, and ran superantispyware complete scan and deleted those threats. All superantispyware found was Adware tracking cookies so i'm pretty sure none of those are causing the problem. Not sure what to do from here.

Hello, please post what MBAM had found.

Next...
Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • Reset FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Rerun RKIll

Please download TDSSKiller.zip and and extract it.
  • Run TDSSKiller.exe.
  • Click on Change Parameters
  • Put a check in the box of Detect TDLFS file system
  • Click Start scan.
  • When it is finished the utility outputs a list of detected objects with description.
The utility automatically selects an action (Cure or Delete) for malicious objects.
The utility prompts the user to select an action to apply to suspicious objects (Skip, by default). Let the options as it is and click Continue
  • Let reboot if needed and tell me if the tool needed a reboot.
  • Click on Report and post the contents of the text file that will open.

Note: By default, the utility outputs the log into system disk (it is usually the disk with installed operating system, C:\) root folder. The Log has a name like: TDSSKiller.Version_Date_Time_log.txt.

    • Enable Anti-Stealth technology
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, push Posted Image
  • Push Posted Image, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Push the Posted Image button.

Download the FixTDSS.exe

Save the file to your Windows desktop.
Close all running programs.
If you are running Windows XP, turn off System Restore. How to turn off or turn on Windows XP System Restore
Double-click the FixTDSS.exe file to start the removal tool.
Click Start to begin the process, and then allow the tool to run.
Restart the computer when prompted by the tool.
After the computer has started, the tool will inform you of the state of infection (make sure to let me know what it said)
If you are running Windows XP, re-enable System Restore.

I ran the minitool box and clicked the boxes you stated. Posted the log then ran RKill again but the TDSSKiller still won't open. I tried running as admin and just tried opening it. It opens a box asking for permission to run then i get the swirling icon for when things are loading so it looks like its loading but nothing comes up. I am in safe mode.

I closed everything that was open and tried to run FixTDSS on my desktop but that won't run either. It does the same thing as the TDSSKiller it will give a promt asking if i want to run, then it shows up in the task manager but after a couple seconds it closes and nothing happens.

Can you run this amd ESET?

Please download aswMBR ( 511KB ) to your desktop.
  • Double click the aswMBR.exe icon to run it
  • Click the Scan button to start the scan
  • On completion of the scan, click the save log button, save it to your desktop and post it in your next reply.

For some reason the download of aswMBR.exe got to 96 percent and now won't go any farther. It says it's downloading at 11.2 KB/sec. Should i cancel and try to redownload? It's going really slowly and dropping a second left for download every minute or so. Now says it's downloading at 11.1 KB/sec.

Downloaded aswMBR and that wont run either. I ran RKIill first to make sure but still cant run any of those programs. While i was in safe mode my internet slowed to a crawl so i restarted and tried to boot in safe mode again, but this just brought me to a screen saying please wait. I did a force restart and inserted my backup disk, hit f8 and went to boot to last know good configuration. I don't know if this matters but that's the only way i could get it to boot up.
