:o Twice recently I have had to do a system restore on our computers as after normal start up Ive got a completely new/different std windows desktop with no files on it. We are running windows XP , NOD antivirus, Malware bytes, and superantispyware, which we regularly scan. We dont sign on with different logins which I originally thought had happened. We are online mostdays. Can anyone shed any light on this? thank you

Hi Kiwi - :)

How many computers are you talking about, and is this in a company or private environment ??
Has the problem been the same on "all" computers, or just one at a time ??

Thank You -

Hi K NZ -
It will take a bit to look at each one at a time, if you are wanting to spend a bit of time -
A first check >>
Please download MiniToolBox, Save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following boxes:

•Flush DNS
•Report IE Proxy Settings
•Reset IE Proxy Settings
•Report FF Proxy Settings
•Reset FF Proxy Settings
•List content of Hosts
•List IP configuration
•List last 10 Event Viewer log
•List Installed Programs
•List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
•List Minidump Files

Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Thank You -

Hi -
Is the other computer going OK at this time ?? Do not post anything from it for now, as we can only do 1 at a time -
Is this the worst of the 2 computers, or are both having similar problems still ??

The reason for asking is we may find a solution on this unit, for both computers

It will take a small time to go over the log and find answers for you - Check back in about 10 or 15 for a (hope) few answers :)

Thanks -

Hi -
A couple of minor things first -
Java™ 6 Update 30 (Version: 6.0.300) - Latest is Version7 Update7 Go to ControlPanel > Java Icon > Open it and click the second tab (Update) Delete any old version left -

Check your Antivirus for the latest updates, ESET NOD32 Antivirus may have a newer version / update available -

Did you need to do a System Restore on this computer when you started it today ??

This is a daily error and I am trying to find anything I can on it -
Error: (09/06/2012 07:17:31 AM) (Source: Service Control Manager) (User: )

When you have time to allow the computer to be "down" for about 1 hour it would be a good idea to run CheckDisk -

Run a Disk Check on your C: drive (Main Drive) in Windows XP:

•Click Start and open My Computer
Right-click on C: and select Properties
•Click on the Tools tab
•Under Error-checking click the Check Now... button
•Mark the box next to Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors
•Click on the Start button
•When the message box pops up, click the Schedule disk check button and restart your computer
•Once your computer restarts it will check the drive, don't press any keys so that it is allowed to do so

The 5 stage check will run for about 60 to 90 minutes, and reboot itself when finished -

Thanks -
