I suspect I was infected with some type of virus recently and I can't get rid of it. Initially, I would receive pop-ups in the lower right corner saying my AV software needed to be updated and then I received messages saying my recycle bin was corrupted. I have run every AV scan I could think of and have found some tracking cookies and one trojan. Since finding the tracking cookies and trojan, all AV scans come up clean. However, every time I run Rkill to make sure I'm really clean, I still have malware processes being stopped when I run Rkill. Ususally, it is a SysWOW64\rundll32.exe process that is terminated. I decided it was time to seek some help - which will be greatly appreciated!

No particular reason, I suppose other than fear that the "old" virus that I did have isn't gone. Sorry.

Both your files in the C:\Windows\System32\ and C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ are correct and good.

There are two versions of the rundll32.exe in 64-bit versions of Windows. A 64-bit application can use the 64-bit version of rundll32.exe located in C:\Windows\System32\ to load 64-bit DLL. But 32-bit programs addressing C:\Windows\System32\ are redirected to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ for compatibility purposes and therefore they will use the 32-bit version of rundll32.exe.

One more thing.

You may have an older copy of the RKill tool.

Delete it and run the latest.

Download from one of these sites:
rkill.exe
rkill.com
rkill.scr
