Hello,
I'm running Windows XP.

I recently got a popup from a malware program calling itself "Live Security Platinum".

It gives warnings about infected files, and stops all other programs from running.

I cannot run any programs from Windows, and Windows stalls when I try to boot up in safe mode.

Could somebody help please?

Take a look here: Remove Live Security Platinum (Uninstall Guide)

Thanks Bleepin' Animinion, the problem seems to be fixed.

The worst thing was that while infected, I was unable to reboot my computer in safe mode, nor run exes such as mbam.exe or taskmgr.exe to kill the malware process.

Turns out this malware allows a handful of exes to run, including iexplore.exe (Internet Explorer) and explorer.exe.

So to run taskmgr.exe & kill the malware without rebooting, I made a copy of taskmgr.exe in explorer, renamed it to iexplore.exe. After running this & killing the malware, I was able to download MalwareBytes & clean up any malware remnants.

A little unorthodox but it worked.
