When I try to run Hijackthis I get an error :"For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file. If any hijacked domains are in this file, HijackThis may NOT be able to fix this.

If that happens you need to edit the file yourself. To do this, click start, run and type :

notepad C:\\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

and press Enter, find the line(s) HijackThis reports and delete them. Save the file as 'hosts' and reboot."

I have done the above and cannot find the hijackthis reports

Additionally when I try to run combofix it just runs for days and days (hypothetically speaking)

So it seems to me there are some viruses on this computer as Avast has already blocked some from gaining access. The default search engine is Babylon and cannot be changed. It is a Dell Inspiron 1470 4.00gb RAM Windows 7 64-bit. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time.
