Ive been having problems just recently with start up delays on my Vista laptop. I had a look in the Event Viewer and found Event ID 10 WMI Locate ID 2057. This seems to appear every time the laptop starts up. I dont know what WMI is and what the problem is. Is there an easy solution to this?

Well...I see comments all over the map...posturing about what it occurring and how to overcome it.

IMO...if there is no functional impairment of Windows that you can discern...leave the Event Viewer errors alone. They are useful when there is an apparent problem...but you don't profess to have such.

Rather than mislead you with the conjectures of others about what might be going on...I say leave it alone until a system problem becomes noticeable.

To illustrate my point...see http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/itprovistasp/thread/9273d705-709e-43bd-a06b-f02b5f649acb .

For something like this...it would not be a bad idea to run the MS FixIt battery on your system.

http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/ , all problem areas.

Thanks again Louis for taking the time to have a look at my problem. I have run the MS ~Fixit but couldnt really find a solution. I will wait until something happens.

If you still have EVENT ID 10 errors, try this

click on startmenu and type

cmd

Right click on it and select run as administrator and run these commands

cd windows\system32\wbem
net stop winmgmt /y
ren repository repository.old
net start winmgmt

See if that works

I have run the MS ~Fixit but couldnt really find a solution.

Do you mean the .VBS file?
