Ive been hijacked by Spyfalcon and continually get pop-ups and false virus alerts which sends me to Spyfalcon website. I also get virus alerts when I run a virus scan with the names of these viruses: TR/Fakealert.AA, TR/Drop.2lob.GW.1, and TR/Dld.2lob.go.2. No amount of wiping, deleting, or quarantining gets rid of them. HijackThis log attached:

Hello there Ellesia

*Now start a new scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items (if present):

O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} - http://software-dl.real.com/04ab775128cde1...ip/RdxIE601.cab
O16 - DPF: {DF780F87-FF2B-4DF8-92D0-73DB16A1543A} (PopCapLoader Object) - http://zone.msn.com/bingame/zuma/default/popcaploader_v5.cab
O16 - DPF: {FA13A9FA-CA9B-11D2-9780-00104B242EA3} (WildTangent Control) - http://www.wildtangent.com/install/wdriver...soft/wtinst.cab

* Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed and click on "Fix Checked" and exit HijackThis when finished.

* Download Spyfalconfix from here:
http://www.martijnc.be/tools/sffix.exe
Download it to your desktop.
Doubleclick sffix.exe
Click the 'install' button.
This will create a new folder on your desktop called sffix.
Open that folder and click: Run.bat
Let the tool perform its job.

Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.
  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player
Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report along with a new Hijackthis log.

Hey Ellesia

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.

If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.]

* Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them if still present:

C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\hosts.bho <--file (do not delete the file called "hosts", only "hosts.bho")

The HijackThis log is now looking clean. It's now up to you to tell me how the computer is running. Do you get any more false virus alerts, and are you still hijacked by Spyfalcon. When you run your antivirus do still get those virus warnings?

David
