Iíve just bought a new Win7 64-bit computer ... still in the box. I will be connecting via dial-up, and have bought Wintekís external Filemate USB Modem CX ... which came with a mini-CD installation disk.

Iíve heard horror stories about mini-CDís jamming vertical DVD/CD drives ... so, hoping to avoid using the mini-CD and jamming my new computer, Iíve downloaded the installation/driver file from the modem manufacturer onto a DVD ... via my old Vista 32-bit system. But the modem installation file is zipped ... so I canít unzip/extract the .inf file and move it to my new computer ... without installing 7-Zip (or something similar) to my Vista system.

Bearing in mind that I canít download anything to my new computer until I install the modem, will there be compatibility problems from moving a file which was downloaded/unzipped on a 32-bit system to a 64-bit system? Any other suggestions for installing my modem?

Thanks a million ...

No, there are no compatibility issues. If you run into any problems with the downloaded file I wouldn't hesitate to use the cd.... if you're really worried, turn the computer on its side to use the mini cd.
