I recently picked up a nasty virus (I think) that I can't identify. Every time I try to install java (32 bit version) I get a message: Not a valid win32 application. The same happens with other exe files. I've run Spybot, Malwarebytes, and Super-Anti-Spryware and none of them have been able to find and/or remove it. I've also run a symantec scan for the beagle32 virus, but it doesn't show up. I'm running Windows 2000. Any ideas??? Thanks in advance!

:welcome:

Java is not compatible with Windows 2000. Remember your OS is way outdated so many modern programs likely are not compatible.

Windows System Requirements

Windows 7
Vista
Windows XP
Windows Server 2008
Intel and 100% compatible processors are supported. A Pentium 166MHz or faster processor with at least 64MB of physical RAM is recommended. You will also need a minimum of 98MB of free disk space.

Thanks for the reply. I know the system is old, so I went to the Java website and downloaded a Win32 version and got the same response. I also got that error on some other exe files, like adobe. Both are supposed to be 32 bit applications that will work on windows 2000. I am convinced the problem is a virus because the java scripts were working 2 days ago. and now they are not.

You're welcome. Javascript is not the same as Java. It is completely different. Javascript is a web scripting language and Java is a client side program to run applets.

Are you only getting this error on exe files that are installation files? Or do you also get it for exe files of programs that are already installed?

I solved the problem today. Apparently, Firefox and Java are not supporting Windows 2000 and even Java says its site has a Win32 version for download, but it isn't recognized as such by Firefox. I was able to download a different browser(Flock) and got it to work.
