Hello.

Yesterday evening I turned my PC on and CHDSK ran with many errors like 'File record segment xxx is unreadable'. The CHDSK ran about 5 times and then I eventually decided to skip the CHDSK and logged onto the Windows. It started lagging like hell so I shut the PC down and when I turned it back on, I got the BSOD. I guess the HDD died and can't be repaired, right?

If there is a way to repair it, how?

If there is no way to repair it, how can I get all my files from it?

Thanks.

Samsung 1TB 7200RPM 32M and yes I do have another PC but it's old, will SATA III work on it?

What about through BOOT CD? What program could I use to get the files from the HDD? When I turn the PC on, it only gets to the Windows Loading part and the the BSOD comes up.

Hello,

Regarding data retrieval:

If your old computer doesn't have SATA ports, you would need a special IDE to SATA Convertor to attach the drive.

What about through BOOT CD? What program could I use to get the files from the HDD?

If the hard drive is still readable, a Linux Live CD plus a USB flash drive or external USB hard drive should work.
Recover files from Windows hard disk using Puppy Linux

Good luck.

Regards,
Brooks
