Just bought a Ipad 3, I'm thinking a $800 mistake!!! I can't even set up a email acct. from Verizon. Tried several ideas from the net to no avail. It seems to be a issue. Did anybody have success doing this. can't use POP server???

Did you add the yahoo. before verizon.net on both incoming and outgoing? In the smtp settings.

I tried this and I get a error POP server not responding. cannot connect using SSL, any other ideas before I get my money back?

I don't do i anything, so unless somebody else has ideas, I'm afraid not. My neighbor says that's how they set up their email and it works. You might contact Verizon customer service to see if your area has a different requirements for the servers.
