Hello rugbywidow,

1. Please disable the Microsoft Anti-Spyware real-time protection, since it might interfere with the fix:Right-click on the Microsoft Anti-Spyware tray icon by your clock (it's the one with the red and yellow bulls-eye).Click on Security Agents Status.
Click on Disable real-time protection.
Next, open Microsoft Anti-Spyware.Click on the Options menu, then Settings.
Select Real Time Protection from the left column.
Uncheck Enable (MSAS) Security Agents and Enable real-time spyware threat protection.
Click the Save button.
Finally, Right-click on the MSAS tray icon, select "Shutdown Microsoft Antispyware", and click "Yes" in the dialog that comes up.
[/list]You can reenable it once your system is clean.

2. Run HijackThis and check these entries, if still present:R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/.../search/ie.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IPInSightLAN 02] "C:\Program Files\Visual Networks\Visual IP InSight\SBC\IPClient.exe" -l

Close all open windows EXCEPT HijackThis and click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis.

Hello rugbywidow,

Can I see a fresh HijackThis log as well please?

To change your desktop:
Open NotePad, copy the contents of the "Code" box below:-
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop]
"NoHTMLWallPaper"=-
Go to File Menu > Save As, type "all files", as Fix.reg to your Desktop.
Exit from NotePad.

Double click on the file Fix.reg and click "Yes" to merge the file to Registry.

Reboot and check if your Desktop properties are back.

Greetings
BMThor

Hello here is the hijack file. However, when I tried to run the instructions you sent before on how to remove the wallpaper, I received an error message that said I couldn't run it unless it was in binary registry.

Hello rugbywidow,

Your HijackThis log looks clean now.

On the matter of that registry fix:
did you copy the entire code as proposed (in bold), that is:REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop]
"NoHTMLWallPaper"=-

Note: the REGEDIT 4 line has to be included!

Then go to File Menu > Save As, type "all files", as Fix.reg to your Desktop.
Exit from NotePad.

Double click on the file Fix.reg and click "Yes" to merge the file to Registry.

Greetings,
BMThor

You're welcome rugbywidow,

Glad we could help you.

-----------------

Below I have included some recommendations on how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously ; these few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems.

1. Please navigate to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ on a regulare basis and download all the "critical updates" for Windows, including the latest version of Internet Explorer.
This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer.

2. In order to protect yourself better against spyware, you should consider installing and running some of the following free programs, however do not use more then one active realtime protection!:SpywareBlaster
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here.

IE/Spyad
Places over 5000 dubious websites and domains in your IE's restricted zone.
Make sure to keep your antispyware programs up-to-date and to run them regularly, as this can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.

3. Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is very good and more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has a built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) . If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here:
http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

Please also read Tony Klein's excellent article: How I got Infected in the First Place
and/or Grinlers tutorial on how malware is hidden and installed
Hopefully this should take care of your problems!

BMThor
