My pc has been taken over by lyahpkot.exe file. It keeps trying to launch, then I get the error message 'has encountered a problem and is trying to close'. Then gives you the option of telling MS about it. Have looked in task manager and found this file, which is taking up to 99% of my processing power. I'm unable to run anything else whilst it's there. Have tried to delete it etc, but no joy. Can anyone help? TIA.

Wow, never heard of that one before  . Have you tried to end process/end process tree? I suppose that could be a temp. fix but you might have a virus or trojan as well. NOT SAYING YOU DO (there have been these exe files on another computer that were just weird files as part of a program O_o) but for now see if ending the process would work.

Good luck (great name BTW)--Gilroy

Yeah it looks like you may have a virus of sorts, I probably can't help other than checking to see if you downloaded anything recently that just isn't agreeing with your system. If so just remove that program. Otherwise I suggest you make a new topic to see if it really is a virus. One last thing, check your startup programs. It could just be a glitched up starter program. If so then you may just have a glitch in XP (yeah rare I know, xp is such an awesome OS).

REALLY hope it works--Gilroy

Hi there,
We've managed to kill the error message by going properties/Advanced/error, and Clicking on disable. This seems to have got rid of it for the time being. Meanwhile my husband will be popping out later today to by an updated virus checker :-)

Thanks for all your help though.
