Hi,

My desktop runs Windows 7 Professional (64 bits) and is, as far as I know, fully updated.

A couple of days ago I noticed that the shortcut to explorer.exe pinned to the taskbar had stopped working. When I click it, I get the following message "This file does not have a program associated...."

First I thought it was a registry problem with shortcut files but when I checked the registry it seemed alright. Also, the shortcut does work. So then I decided to check the explorer.exe file on the %windir% directory. The file is in its folder but when I double click it, I get the same error message as above.

However, explorer itself (taskbars, folders, windows) seem to work well. In fact, if I kill explorer from the task manager and then re-start it by running explorer.exe as a new task, the windows, taskbars, and so on all launch without a problem yet the shortcut still doesn't work.

I am a bit lost so any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Thanks for your help but it did not work. I applied the fix, restarted the computer, and explorer.exe still fails

Thanks again but it doesn't do the trick. Even when I double click on explorer.exe on the Windows folder, it still returns an error message.

Thanks
