Hello,
I'd like to ask for your kind help!
I am having PerfNet Error Code 2004 problem according to Event Viewer. As it drives me crazy and actually, during the past few days I was unable to visit some sites--the error message said Time Out perhaps. Though I saw that my browser looked like trying to connect my modem's light didn't blinking. I found ComboFix downloaded and ran thinking what to lose?! I have read how to use it properly and mustn't use without advising it by a supervisor... but I was so desperate!
As I can't define what the log file says, pls tell me what it is about!
During the scan it said "Find-3M" I'm not sure if it found anything and if so, it was able to fix it or not, so is there anything I have to do for problems to be solved or not?
I am attaching the log file hereby as well as the quarantine log.
Thank you very very much for your kind help in advance!
Brgds,
Edie

No one is ignored here.

To help Bleeping Computer better assist you please perform the following steps:

If you no longer need help, then all you needed to do was the previous instructions of telling me so. You can skip the rest of this post. If you do need help please continue with Step 2 below.

***************************************************

Posted Image If you still need help, I would like you to post a Reply to this topic (click the "Add Reply" button in the lower right hand of this page). In that reply, please include the following information:

  • If you have not done so already, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.
  • A new DDS and GMER log. For your convenience, you will find the instructions for generating these logs repeated at the bottom of this post.
    • Please do this even if you have previously posted logs for us.
    • If you were unable to produce the logs originally please try once more.
    • If you are unable to create a log please provide detailed information about your installed Windows Operating System including the Version, Edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system.
    • If you are unsure about any of these characteristics just post what you can and we will guide you.
  • Please tell us if you have your original Windows CD/DVD available.
  • Upon completing the above steps and posting a reply, another staff member will review your topic and do their best to resolve your issues.

Thank you for your patience, and again sorry for the delay.

***************************************************

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan again:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links if you no longer have it available. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit Scanner.

Please note that if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows, you should not bother creating a GMER log.

Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log

As I am just a silly little program running on the BleepingComputer.com servers, please do not send me private messages as I do not know how to read and reply to them! Thanks!

Hello,

I am sorry for my late reply. I needed to reinstall my PC during the past few days.
Actually, I am still having PerfNet error code 2004. Can you happen to help me get rid of this error message/fix the problem causing it? I don't know what it is about, but not improper settings for sure I have checked it. Before having reinstalled my PC Panda's yorkyt.exe seemed to help the problem, though I had no Zero Access infection. Now this tool doesn't help and as far as I can see its log is clear.

Thanks so much for your kind help in advance!

Brgds,

Edie

Hi,
Thanks for helping me first.
I did as you directed, so I subscribed to this topic.
Actually, the main reason why I had to reninstall my PC was that my security was turned off--not by me of course and there was no sight of it only in Event Viewer.
I'll take your advice and won't do anything without your direction.
Actually, Panda's yorkyt.exe seems to work regarding fixing PerfNet error code 2004, but I am not sure if it fixes the problem since this program has nothing to do with PerfNet--as far as I know.
I am at a loss.
Waiting for your instructions!
Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Please close this case and I am really sorry for wasting your time!

Actually, I am sending you hereby the error message.

Source: PerfNet
Type: Error
Error ID: 2004
Description:
Unable to open the Server service. Server performance data will not be returned. Error code returned is in data DWORD 0.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Data:
0000: 34 00 00 c0

Actually, in the meantime browsing the Internet I found some helpful information. http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH81064
I have been fighting against this problem for a long, long time, so I think I will ask for support from Symantec. I use IBM Lotus Symphony also, but I guess Symantec can solve this annoying problem.
I wish I had known it sooner...

Brgds,

E.
