hey guys, ok I just got news that microsoft removed all ther XP patching servers about 2 years back.. this presents a problem for me, as I just purchased a new tower and removed the vid card from the old one (the motherboard has a built in one) thinking to purpose it into an XP pc. I was wondering if there are any places that still offer XP patches (from patch numero uno) and on, or if Linux could run XP-only and XP/older games..... like SUdeki that wont run on vista/7/8 no mater what patch or crazy file moving you do

Hi, What you do is go to www.microsoft.com

Download the service packs
Download: Windows XP Service Pack 2 for IT Professionals and ...
Windows XP Service Pack 3
Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1)

Download: Windows Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP

Start with the next one up from what you have. If you have SP1 , do the SP2. Don't forget to install IE8.

Once you get to SP3 and IE8 then the windows update will work. All that Microsoft stopped was Windows update for anything lower than SP3.

Good Luck
Roger

I don't know the source of your info...but, if you are referring to SP2 and SP3 for XP, they are available for download/installation.

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=28 for SP2

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24 for SP3.

Just click the Download button at each link, save to desktop, install from desktop.

Install SP2 first, then after that has been done...install SP3.

After these are installed, go to the Windows Update site for a large number of critical updates which have been issued since the debut of SP3.
