Hello again, everyone at Bleeping Computer. Got a new challenge for ya.

I'm having multiple problems with my desktop, and until you tell me otherwise, I'm putting all the blame on IE9!

Months ago, when the newest version of IE came out I rolled back to IE8 after installing because I didn't really like 9. Been using it all this time with no problems.

Yesterday, stupid YouTube decided that they didn't want HTML5 to be supported by my browser anymore and I was forced to upgrade back to IE9 to watch ANY videos on the site. And I suddenly remembered why I hated it. It freezes. Constantly. Mostly just the Internet- but every now and then, the whole system freezes and I have to restart. Not only that, but it's affecting my display driver somehow. The screen will go black and my monitor looks like it turns off then back on and I get a "Display Driver Not Working" message.

There also seems to be an issue with Windows Update, as it doesn't show anything when I check for new updates, but when I run Advanced System Care, it will show me 6 or 7 Vulnerability Issues (which all look like Win Updates).

So far, I've ran scans with Microsoft Security Essentials, SuperAntiSpyware, and Advanced System Care (Deep Scan, WinFix, Security Holes Scanner, and Driver Manager) and I can't find any real issues.

I'll just hang out here in good ol' Safe Mode until I hear back from someone on this. Thanks in advance! :)

Hi -
My first idea is that Advanced System Care (Deep Scan, WinFix, Security Holes Scanner, and Driver Manager) is causing several problems -
This program has been known to clash with other Antivirus and Antimalware programs, so for that reason I usually remove it first
Information and Removal Tool to use After you uninstall the program, first from its own Uninstaller, and Programs and Features

Try this quick basic idea first, and post back with any results so we can then have a deeper look -

Thank You -
Spelling Edit -

That's weird. I've had ASC for years and it's never given me problems - saved me from quite a few though.

I deleted it and used the removal tool, but I gotta tell ya, I already miss it.

And I'm still having the same issues.

You are running the wrong version of DirectX...you have an older version of Daemon Tools (known to cause problems) rather than current version.

Worth a look, http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/5533-windows-7-directx-version.html .

You have a lot of errors citing Bonjour...I would uninstall it.

May relate to inability to create .dmp files re system crashes, http://www.eventid.net/display-eventid-46-source-volmgr-eventno-10647-phase-1.htm

FWIW: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/mse-protect_start/is-my-microsoft-antimalware-a-genuine-program/3883abd2-893b-4eaf-9fe0-9bb4b6342a22

As for your display drivers...simply uninstall the current ones, then reinstall them. They may be OK, since it appears to me that you are not running the correct version of DirectX...but uninstalling/reinstalling them won't hurt.

A lot of that went over my head.

I updated Daemon Tools and uninstalled Bonjour.

Where do I go to update DirectX?

The link regarding .dmp files seems to refer to a different OS and I can't figure it out.

Does the mention of "Microsoft Antimalware" mean I have a virus or that MSE isn't legit?

How do I uninstall and reinstall the display drivers?

I hate to be impatient, seeing how much stuff you have to go through on these forums, but I really can't figure out what's going on with my desktop or how to fix it. Heck, for the last week, I've barely been able to try researching the things you said need to be repaired before it freezes and I have to reboot again.
I know you've got a lot on your plates, and I apologize for figuratively tapping my feet, but I can't do my work without this machine at least staying on long enough for me to hit "Save". :( Is there maybe another help/forum site you could suggest?

Hello,

I'm somewhat suspicious of these Speccy Snapshot voltages. They seem well out of tolerance. Maybe it's a power supply issue.

Voltage
+12V: 4.892 V
+5V: 2.562 V
CPU CORE: 2.016 V
VIN3: 1.668 V
VIN4: 2.784 V
+3.3V: 1.379 V
VIN6: 1.188 V
VIN7: 1.656 V
VIN8: 1.572 V

The voltages in brown should only be plus/minus 5% different than the voltages in black. ( Ref: Power Supply Voltage Tolerances)
As you can see, yours are substantially lower (50% or more).

The best way to rule out a failing power supply is to swap in a known good one and see if the freezing goes away. Much easier said than done for most people. If someone is good using a Voltmeter, they could test each output.

There are also Power Supply Testers available that check for correct output and sound an alarm if output is not correct.

If your computer is still under warranty, that would be the way to go.

Brooks
