Hi, over the last 2 days I've been having a serious issue with a trojan that's getting rapidly worse. I did a google search and found that many people have been having this same issue within the last 2 weeks, and we all seem to use the Avira virus scanner. The issue is a trojan called ATRAPS.Gen (and sometimes Gen2), which Avira finds and quarantines, and then finds again less than a minute later within a new file. I looked extensively online and this seems to be a sort of tricky virus - this site seems to offer the best advice I can find (and has addressed this virus before), and as you recommended, I didn't take any major steps of my own other than updating Avira and then running a full system scan. As usual, it found atraps.gen and atraps.gen2 and quarantined them. The log of that scan is below:

http://pastebin.com/vdE1kLDq

I run Windows XP SP3 (and I have a virtual drive F from the Alcohol 120% program, which probably accounts for that "hidden object" found in the scan).
Any advice is much appreciated!

EDIT: I'm sorry, only just now looked in more detail at the pinned threads and saw the log-posting guideline. I'd delete this thread and repost it in the correct area but I'm not able to. Sorry for the inconvenience.
EDIT 2: I've also now gone ahead and downloaded/run DeFogger to temporarily disable my virtual drive, just in case.

Hi Broni - just want to say first, I don't at all take this service for granted, and I VERY much appreciate your taking the time to offer some help - so, seriously, thanks.
Second, I should mention that just late last night I tried booting up my computer again, and the problem had evolved somewhat - now, rather than triggering a detection in my Avira blocker every minute or so, the blocker is being prevented from functioning at all - yesterday at least the realtime protection was working. Now, it's being prevented from even being re-enabled. I'm starting to realize this is probably a lot more serious than I thought. Here are the requested logs (which seem to have found quite a bit...):

Wow. I'm kind of embarrassed at how much was found. I believe the two that MBAM found in the \Windows\Installer directory were the two that Avira was calling ATRAPS, since it's the same location - but it looks like those were the least of my problems. Incidentally, the Avira blocker is still off.

You're infected with ZeroAccess rootkit.
It'll require elevated help.

Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<== starting at Step 6. If you cannot complete a step, skip it and continue.

Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include a description of your computer issues, what you have done to resolve them, and a link to this topic.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient.

If HelpBot replies to your topic, PLEASE follow Step One so it will report your topic to the team members.
