User contacted me to complain of very slugglish performance on his new-ish second-generation Dell Intel i7 Windows 7 x64 computer over the last couple of days. The user also says he is getting web browser redirects to a non-default search engine.

A Trend Micro Internet Security scan shows hundreds of files infected with TROJ_SIREFEF.GF, TROJ_SIREFEF.UT, TROJ_SIREFEF.RB, TROJ_SIREFEF.UV. Trend said "threat removed" on each file, but I'm skeptical that the infection is gone.

Here is content of DDS file:

Following this forum's Preparation Guide, I also ran GMER, but since this is an x64 system, all options but Services, Registry and Files were greyed out. At end of the scan GMER said "GMER hasn't found any system modification." There is therefore no GMER log to post.

Also Windows Explorer.EXE is not working. It will not open and generates an error dialog "System call failed."
