I've run the Malware Bytes and it comes back finding trojan.dropper.bcminer but it never seems to get rid of it. If I reboot the computer and run another scan, it says that it's still there. The web browser's running slow and Google redirects some of the websites. I'm not sure if they're two different problems or if they're the same one.

I've tried downloading and running the TDSSKiller and it won't run. When I double click it, the message comes up asking if I want to run the program I click yes and then nothing happens. I have tried renaming it also to the 123.com and iexplore.com with no success. I get the same message asking if I give permission to run and then nothing happens shows up to do the actual scan process.

Here's the DSS Log:

The flash drive isn't being recognized by my laptop. Its the first time I've had to use the Flash Drive on the laptop. I'm not sure if I should try to fix it or if it's just going to make things worse cause of malware problem.

I'm going to try and burn it onto a CD and run it off of that - I know my laptop still recognizes CDs. But I probably won't be able to redownload the program from a clean computer until Monday morning.

I'll post the results then.

try this instead:

Refer to the ComboFix User's Guide

  • Download ComboFix from the following location:

    Link

    * IMPORTANT !!! Place ComboFix.exe on your Desktop
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with ComboFix.
You can get help on disabling your protection programs here
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • Your desktop may go blank. This is normal. It will return when ComboFix is done. ComboFix may reboot your machine. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • Ensure your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications are re-enabled.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE: If you encounter a message "illegal operation attempted on registry key that has been marked for deletion" and no programs will run - please just reboot and that will resolve that error.

that looks better,

please run the following:

Please download TDSSKiller.zip
  • Extract it to your desktop
  • Double click TDSSKiller.exe
  • when the window opens, click on Change Parameters
  • under ”Additional options”, put a check mark in the box next to “Detect TDLFS File System”
  • click OK
  • Press Start Scan
    • If Malicious objects are found then ensure Cure is selected
    • If TDLFS File System/TDSS File system is found then ensure Cure is selected (if cure is not available, choose skip)
    • Then click Continue > Reboot now
  • Copy and paste the log in your next reply
    • A copy of the log will be saved automatically to the root of the drive (typically C:\)

NEXT

  • Please download MiniToolBox and save it to your desktop and run it.

    Checkmark following checkboxes:
  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List installed programs.

Click Go and post the result (Result.txt) that pops up. A copy of result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

NEXT

Please download Farbar Service Scanner to your desktop and run it.
  • Make sure the following options are checked:
    • Internet Services
    • Windows Firewall
    • System Restore
    • Security Center
    • Windows Update
    • Windows Defender
  • Press "Scan".
  • It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

I still cannot get the tdsskiller to open. I downloaded it and extracted the files. When I double click the typical Windows message pops up "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?" I click on yes and nothing happens. I even waited 10 minutes to see if it was a delay in opening the programm and nothing.

Should I continue with the other two and run the MiniToolBox and Farbar or should I do something else?

your BITS registry keys are missing, please download the attached reg fix and save it to your desktop, double click it to run it and allow it to merge to your registry (then delete the file as you wont need it again)

please delete the copy of TDSSKiller that you have on your desktop and download a fresh copy, but rename it to mario.com before saving it to your desktop, now try running it again

I downloaded the regsitry and it seems to have worked fine. When I open up the .zip file I get "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."

I went back and downloaded the original .exe instead of the .zip and renamed it mario.com when i downloaded it, to see if that would run. And it's the same thing. It never starts up to even begin the scan.

please run the following:

  • Please download aswMBR.exe and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click aswMBR.exe to start the tool.
  • When asked if you want to download Avast's virus definitions please select Yes.
  • Click Scan

  • Upon completion of the scan, click Save log and save it to your desktop, and post that log in your next reply for review. Note - do NOT attempt any Fix yet.
  • You will also notice another file created on the desktop named MBR.dat. Right click that file and select Send To>Compressed (zipped) file. Attach that zipped file in your next reply as well.

It's the same thing as the TDSSKiller. It asks for approval, I say Yes and then the program never loads. I've even turned off the approval notification to see if that was causing problems and it still doesn't open.

I usually wait about 5-10 minutes just to make sure it's not delayed. Are the programs not opening related to the problem or could it be something else?

Let's try this, let's try running TDSSKiller and aswMBR from the Malwarebytes Chameleon folder

Move tdsskiller.exe and aswMBR.exe to this folder:

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Chameleon

Install the Chameleon driver by doing the following:

Press the Windows key + R and in the Run box, copy and paste the following command then press Enter.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Chameleon\mbam-chameleon.exe" /o

A black DOS prompt will appear with a prompt to press any key to continue, please do so.

Now run aswMBR.exe and tdsskiller.exe as per my previous instructions.

you will have to navigate to their new location to run them. Let me know if you have trouble.

Neither worked again. When I tried to open the aswMBR, after waiting a few minutes I got a pop up of "Windows Explorer stopped working. Checking to see if it can fix the problem." And then "Windows Explorer is restarting." and it refreshes the Window Explorer -- it's not a complete restart of the whole computer with the log in screen.

I also got an alert from the Malwarebytes "[OpenEvent] Failed to perform desired action. Error code: 2" -- sometimes I get this message, sometimes I don't.

After it didn't work with aswMRB I restarted the computer and tried the same steps to run TDSSKiller and it didn't work either. I didn't get the Windows Explorer message but I got the Malwarebytes error message again.
