i have a couple of probs these are the ones i can think of right now:

my MSE freezes when doing a full scan it doesn't start at all or freezes at C:\Windows\System32\CodeIntegrity\driver.stl
that sfc/scannow only reaches 43% and then stops
windows live messenger wont open{have unninstalled since then}
all new downloads like songs and such have a unknown account in security with the name Account Unknown (s-1-5-5-0-191954)
all my old shortcuts in my start/all programs never came back
and a few installed updates i cant find in list so my computer keeps trying to install those updates because it cant find them even though they are already installed
and at times when i do something on my computer witch needs administrators permision my computer wont open that and i have to restart my computer to use it.

wich i searched help for and that person sent me here from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic461668.html

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan again:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links if you no longer have it available. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit Scanner.

Please note that if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows, you should not bother creating a GMER log.

Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log

As I am just a silly little program running on the BleepingComputer.com servers, please do not send me private messages as I do not know how to read and reply to them! Thanks!

Hi,

My name is Casey and I will be helping you with your malware problems.

Whilst we work through your PC problems, it is very important that you do not make any changes to this PC. Specifically, do not run any further malware removal tools or try to remove anything yourself.

You may wish to "Watch Topic" so that you are immediately informed of any replies I make. I also ask that you reply to my posts within 5 days else your topic will be closed as stale.

Throughout the removal process, if you have any questions then you should ask them. If you are unsure of my instructions or something does not go as planned - then please tell me. Conversely, it is also important that you answer any questions I have and that you keep me updated on the state of the PC.

Download and run ComboFix

We will begin with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. If you are prompted to install the Recovery Console, then please do so.

Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.

Note: If you have trouble running ComboFix, then please rename ComboFix.exe to Caseyboy.exe and re-run.

Regards,

Casey

Hi,

You didn't mention that you've run ComboFix - you should have done as this is important to know.

When you ran ComboFix a log should have been produced, it will be located at C:\combofix.txt. Please post it here so I can review it.

From reading your description and looking through your other topic: my first thought is that you basically have a corrupted Windows installation. You seem to have so many different problems we could spend a long time trying to fix them and get nowhere.

  • When you start your PC, please continuously tap the F8 key.
  • A black windows should appear with some start up options.
  • Is there a "Repair you computer" option?

If not, is there anyone from whom you could borrow a Windows Vista installation DVD?

Hi again,

What options exactly are available? There is sometimes a "Reset to factory settings" which will wipe everything on your PC and a "Repair" option which will just repair Windows but keep your files.

Okay, well before we go down the route of a factory reset, I'd like us to try reinstalling the latest service pack.

Using method 1 outlined here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948537 please uninstall Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2).

I would then like you to reinstall the service pack using Windows Update, alternatively you can download an offline version from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=16468

OK, could you try Method 3 instead please?

if this doesn't work. will the factory reset fix it

Definitely - this will restore your PC to the same as it was when you first bought it. That will means Windows will be "brand new".
