1) What is new or different since the last time everything worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, error, etc)?
2) Are there any yellow or red symbols in device manager?
3) Have you run full scans with both your AV and MalwareBytes? If not, please do so.
4) Does this happen if NOTHING is connected to your usb ports?
5) Do all usb ports seem to be functioning?

This problem has been on and off for a while but not as often, probably once a week or so, now it's crashing much more often.

The only thing connected to USB is a mouse. However, I think internally, the build in camera is also USB (it says USB in the driver)
In device manager, I have gone through all the USB device and checked that I have the latest driver software.
Also, as suggested by other post, I have disabled the USB option in power management, which reduces the number of BSOD but doesn't stop it.

I did had a problem with malware about a month or so ago but has been clean since (and the BSOD was happening even before the malware infection)

The BSOD happens sometimes when I'm in the middle of doing something like typing or browsing a webpage but more often it happens when the computer is idle. A few times it just freezes up and when this happens it network problem (other computers at home loses internet connection until this computer is rebooted). Sometimes, I'll get the blue screen but others the computer just reboot by itself.

If this all started happening after your system was infected I'm guessing there's a correlation.
