iphone screen shots for app cover that are generic

i would like to personalize my app pictures especially the ones where they are all generic
(but each one does some thing a little different)
hope this makes sence to you all, i really would love to make my apps " at a glance," easy.
easy to (at a glance) use them.
how do i add a screen shot over a generic app????
please , can some one answer this??? its for a i phone and also a ipad
