I followed the Live Security Platinum Uninstall Guide on this site. In the end, Malwarebytes found the 3 scoundrels. But I can't connect to the internet. Well, to be more correct, the Local Area Connection shows me connected. To get to this point, I manually specified the ip information, since I couldn't get Winsock fixed, no matter what I did... various Fixit and http://seoroot.com/blog/networking/how-to-reset-winsock.html/ methodologies.

The second issue is the firewall. I can't turn the Windows Firewall on or off. I can't access the settings at all. I downloaded the sharedaccess.reg fix suggested on another site and it got me a little further... the message now is that I have to start the ICS Service. Starting that service doesn't help and making it automatic start doesn't help.

So, where do I go from here? Thanks

The reply I made apparently didn't take. No, restore was not turned on. It is now! However, I would like to keep this going, since I did follow the instructions in the Virus Removal Guide. It may be there is a new factor in the malware. Please recommend a rootkit exterminator. Thanks,

I did run hijackthis after removal and saw nothing suspicious to my eye. Also, after removal, when I saw there was a winsock problem, I started a new userid with admin rights. So all I've reported is with this new ID. If the problem is in documents and settings, then it isn't in the Local Settings for this new id.
