My problems started out with a type of scareware which appeared after I turned on my computer under a name like file recovery or something. It started doing a scan and told me that my hard drive was in trouble or something like that. There were loads of areas according to this 'scan' that were in danger or not responding. When I clicked repair it brought me to a screen which had two options which were purchase license or enter license number. There were a load of boxes with three otpions on my screen saying something failed and giving me three options two of which were cancel and retry. The icons on my desktop disappeared and when I clicked started I had to search for things as there were no options showing for me to click on like computer or control panel.

I ran a scan with superantispyware and it found nothing. I ended up using system restore and the problem seemed to disappear. Then it appeared again and after doing scans with Avira, Superantispyware and then I downloaded Microsoft Security essentials and Malwarbytes but they all found nothing. I used system restore again in safe mode and since that time I have not had any scareware attack. That was about five days ago.

Then the google redirect thing started. Most times I click on a link I get redirected to another site. I ran scans again and they found nothing. I cleared all my cookies and all history on my FF browser and there was no improvement. The most common site I get redirected to is bidvertiser.

A friend of mine who claims he is pretty handy with computers then told me to download combofix and run it which I did. Nothing has changed and eventually I started talking to people who told me to come here. I came here a couple of days ago and have been running scans under advisement from Broni. He told me to go to the preparation guide and follow from step 6 which I did.
An issue arose while trying to do some logs. Some files would download and when I double clicked them I would get the message 'Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher make changes to your computer' I click yes and nothing happens.

Here is where I created logs under advisement from Broni.

My laptop is 64 bit so I did not do a GMER log. Below is the DDS.txt log and attachment.

It seems I can't edit my previous post so I have to add this. Just something I noticed today which is that I cannot click open any icon on my desktop. I noticed it a few days ago but forgot about it. They are just like clicking a blank spot on the screen, right click doesn't give any options either.

While I was working today my friend who really didn't help before downloaded hitman pro and it found two rootkits as well as several other issues. I just uninstalled it and everything seems to be working fine. So at this time I don't appear to need any help.

Thanks for the help I got earlier on. I'm sorry I don't have the details of what the rootkits were to share with you guys. I know you are doing a great job and helping a lot of people here. Again thanks for your help. Even though my problems seem to have been solved I'm still quite annoyed with my friend for doing this.

It appears that this issue is resolved, therefore I am closing the topic. If that is not the case and you need or wish to continue with this topic, please send me or any Moderator a Personal Message (PM) that you would like this topic re-opened.

regards, Elise
