I'm trying to install a different copy of xp that I know works, but It wont install when I put in the cd. The same thing happens. What do I do?

Sounds as if it is a bad HDD.

Most the HDD manufactures websites will have a tool that can be downloaded to a floppy to test the drive.

Do you know the make of your HDD, I will direct you to the tool to test it.

I am new to the forum, but had this same type of ordeal with a New WD 160GB drive.

Did you just install the drive? If so did you use the setup disc that came withit?

Ok
I am assuming you partitioned and then formatted the partition you are loading it on.

Is your CD all scratched up?

If not then I would say it is a corrupt Boot Sector, you can use the XP CD to repair the boot sector.
