I discovered the mailto registry is messed up when I was in our accounting program MAS90 and tried to click on the email icon & it opened up 50 internet explorer windows.

I am trying to import a mailto folder (that I exported from a computer that is working) into the [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT] registry, but am having problems. It gives me the error "Cannot import mailto: error accessing the registry."

How do I fix this problem? On the other computers I can open the mailto folder, but on this computer I am unable to open it or delete the current messed up one. Please help.

Thanks

Michelle

See if this will solve your problems.

Multiple browser windows open when you click on a mailto: link

Set the default email client on a per-user basis

Thanks for your reply. I found the first link prior to posting this topic & tried it, however it did not work, so I tried to copy the mailto registry from another computer to the one that is having the problem but was unable to import that registry. I kept getting the cannot import error. I made sure I was logged in as Adminsitrator of that computer, but it still did not work. is there a trick to importing these registry files?

What else do you suggest?

Michelle

Everyone says this will work if the other link I provided doesn't.
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/defaultmail.htm

This is what it will look like when you run it:
It will list all your mail clients and you will choose the one you wish to fix.
