I've gone through all spyware recommended here, but still something is running in the background that wasn't before a few days ago. I notice that things move slower than before and several times the computer had frozen. No blue screen, but the keyboard completely stops responding. I do a hard reboot and everything seems is OK except the program or process or whatever is still running. I hear the drive crunching away.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Chris

Hello GreenKeyHomes and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I do not see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean.

My guess is that either Windows Defender or Norton is doing a scan, thus the hard drive activity. If interupted, then it will simply restart when the system is rebooted. I would suggest that you post a question in the XP forum and let them do a little deeper analysis of what process is utilizing the CPU and taking up the bulk of the system resources at the time of the hard drive activity.

Cheers.
