Hello waxace,

Please confirm that you have run the following scans or run them now.
Save any logs that you generate - we may need them later.
Do not post any logs unless I ask you.

Also, please provide me with a description of the problem you are experiencing.

***************************************************

Please download, update and run (one at a time of course!)
Spybot 1.4 and Adaware SE 1.06.r1

Fix whatever they suggest.

If you need help running these tools, here are some helpful tutorials.
Spybot Tutorial
Adaware SE Tutorial

Be sure to fun Adaware SE with a Full Scan in the Safe Mode.

How to Reboot into Safe Mode
tap F8 key during reboot, until the boot menu appears...use the arrow keys to choose "Safe Mode" from the menu......,then press the "Enter" key.

Ad-Aware SE Setup

***************************************************

Please download, update and run the free A2 (A squared) anti-trojan

If malware is found, click the button "Remove Selected Malware".

Save the log file by clicking on "Save HTML-Report".

Let it delete whatever it finds.

***************************************************

I know you may have anti-virus software, but sometimes its definitions are corrupted due to malware. Online scans are the best resort in this case.
Run this pc through the
Trend Micro Housecall Online virus scanner
or
Panda Scan Online virus scanner

Let it delete whatever it finds. If it cannot delete it, then post the log and we will delete it manually.

***************************************************

Next, reboot and post a fresh HijackThis log to this thread.
If I've saved you time & money,
please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you! You can donate using a credit card and PayPal. Thank you!

Hi Waxace,

Are you seeing any problems with this computer?

I see that you are running msconfig in /auto mode which means that you may have selectively removed some items in the past from the startup procedure.

This can be bad if they are malware, so we would like you to reenable those startup entries by doing the following:

Please click on start, then run, and type msconfig and then press enter. When the window opens click on the startup tab and make sure there are checkmarks in every entry. Then press ok until you are out of the program.
If it asks to reboot, do not reboot. It is not necessary to reboot to get the items to show up in HijackThis.

Now please create a new Hijackthis Log and post it as a reply.

Also, did you intentionaly add these to your Trusted xZone?

I did not really have any problems with this computer, and I have selectively turned off msn messenger and a few other programs that will stay on unless turned off (Quicktask, ADOBE MANAGER ETC..)

No other unknowns...

As originally stated, I was concerned about the beehappyy.biz that BAZOOKA keeps finding although I can not find and instance of it anywhere.....

Yes I did add those to the trusted zone...

The beehappyy.biz was the concern....

Thanks!

Since you did not post a new Hijackthis log with all the MSCONFIG enabled
I cannot guarentee you do not have running processes that are causing malware.
I cannot delete malware if I cant see it. But that is up to you.

In your present log there are two minor items to fix.

Download CCleaner and install it. (default location is best). Do not run it yet!

CCleaner Tutorial

In normal Mode and select the following with HijackThis.
With all windows (including this one!) closed (close browser/explorer windows), please select "fix.

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file)

*******************************************

Let's empty the temp files:

Run CCleaner.

1. Starting with v1.27.260, CCleaner installs the Yahoo Toolbar as an option which IS checkmarked by default during the installation.
IF you do NOT want it, REMOVE the checkmark when provided with the option OR download the toolbarfree Basic version instead of the Standard Build.

2. Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"

3. Then select the items you wish to clean up.

In the Windows Tab:
Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section except Cookies.
Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
Clean all entries in the "System" section.
Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
Clean any others that you choose.

In the Applications Tab:
Clean all except cookies in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
Clean any others that you choose.

4. Click the "Run Cleaner" button.
5. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
6. Click "OK" and it will scan and clean your system.
7. Click "exit" when done.

If it asks you to reboot at the end, click NO.

CCleaner should be run with the above settings for each User Account!

*******************************************

I was concerned about the beehappyy.biz that BAZOOKA keeps finding although I can not find and instance of it anywhere.....

Where does BAZOOKA find beehappyy.biz?

beehappyy.biz is caused by the WMF exploit.

Please ensure that Windows is patched against the WMF exploit.
This is a dangerous vulnerability that opens the door to multiple infections.
Visit Window's Update to get the KB912919 patch.

Add beehappyy.biz to the IE restricted zone
Add beehappyy.biz to your HOSTS file. It's located at c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts.
You can open it up in Notepad.

*******************************************

A2 (A squared) detects WMF exploit so, please download, update and run the free A2 (A squared) anti-trojan

If malware is found, click the button "Remove Selected Malware".

Save the log file by clicking on "Save HTML-Report".

Let it delete whatever it finds.

Finally, reboot to the Normal Mode and post a new Hijackthis log, and tell me how your computer is running.

O.K.
I have the CCleaner already but I followed to the letter what you said to do.

First I removed the R3 and the O2 refrences in the Hi-Jack this log before this one.
(B.T.W. Those were mentioned in BAZOOKA'S explaination of added lines)

I set and ran the CCleaner as you specified

Upon searching I found that Microsoft Patch (KB912919) is already pached.

After the reboot and log creation, I ran Bazooka again and it still insists that the beehappyy.biz exists.
On there knowlwdge base, it says where it could be rather than where exactly it is on my system.

I ran Bazooka again and it still insists that the beehappyy.biz exists.

Where does Bazooka say it is? What is the location?

Did you run A2 (A squared) anti-trojan?
They added detection for the WMF exploit.

The following online virus scanners should detect it. If it finds it, let it remove it.
If it cannot remove it, then let me know the location.

I would run all of them (one at time of course).

F-Secure Online Virus Scanner http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml

BitDefender Free Online Virus Scan http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html

Kaspersky Online Scanner http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

eTrust Antivirus Web Scanner http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx

Hello again,

I have and have run a2 with no negative results.
I will run all the AV scanners you say below and see what comes up.

As I am doing that, below is a log from Bazooka.
Mabye you can make some sense of it....

I'll post back the results of the other scans..

I do have two of the 4 scans in my personal folders to scan at will.
I use over six to scan at different times just to check since one scan is never enough sometimes....

Your Hijackthis log looks clean and all the virus scanners and A2 trojan scan came up clean.
I am thinking this a remenent of a previous WMF that was removed.

The BAZOOKA LOG tells the location.

Go to My Computer and double-click C.
Go to the Tools menu and select 'Folder Options'.
On the 'View' tab select 'show hidden files and folders',
deselect (uncheck) 'hide protected operating system files (recommended)', and
deselect (uncheck) "Hide extensions for known file types.'

Using Windows Explorer, find and delete each of the following. If you can't delete an item, right-click it and click properties. Make sure 'read-only' is unchecked.
If you still can't delete something, right-click it and rename it to a random word. Then drag the item to a different location. Try deleting it now. If you still can't, be sure to let me know. Folders and files with a tilde (~), means that there is a file/folder that starts with the six characters in front of the tilde, note that there may be spaces in the name.

Using Windows Explorer, delete the following files in bold

C:\windows\tempf.txt <== file

Now run Bazooka again and see if it finds anything.
If it does find something, then print the Bazooka log.

Well,
That was it!
After all that crazy searching and testing, it was in a old log....DAMN!
I have to say, I probably have the cleanest and virus/trojan/spyware free unit for miles after that enema!!!
I usually spend one day a month just doing that what we did for that reason.
I do regular weekly and daily maint/tune-up so that's why I was surprised by the exploit.

Thanks for your help! :flowers:
