Your Computer Is Infected! Windows Has Detected..

This is the second time I have been infected with this, so please bare with me. I am receiving a message that says: "Your computer is infected! Windows has detected spyware infection..." I'm not sure if this is spyaxe, because after scans with Ewido, Spybot and Ad-Aware, I was unable to eliminate the problem. Please see my attached HijackThis log.

Hi Canadian,

Welcome to BC. :thumbsup: I am sorry to inform you that you have a couple of trojans which allow attackers to access your computer, stealing passwords, Internet banking and personal data, as well as logging keypresses and open window titles to text files and periodically send the collected information to a remote user via HTTP. :flowers:

This is the standard warning for such cases . . . .

You are strongly advised to do the following immediately (as appropriate):

1. Disconnect infected computer from the internet and from any networked computers until the computer can be cleaned.

2. Call all of your banks, credit card companies, financial institutions and inform them that you may be a victim of identity theft and to put a watch on your accounts or change all your account numbers.

3. From a clean computer, change *all* your online passwords -- for email, for banks, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, online companies, any online forums or groups you belong to.

Do NOT change passwords or do any transactions while using the infected computer because the attacker will get the new passords and transaction information.

Things may not be as bad as they sound, but you should be aware that this type of malware is/was on your machine. I'll be happy to try to help you eradicate it! but cannot guarantee that it will ever be trusted again.

Please print these instructions out, or write them down, so that you'll have access to them at all times.

Run HiJackThis;

1. Click "Open the Misc Tools Section"
2. Click "Open Process manager"

Next, click on (highlight) the following;

C:\WINDOWS\tool2.exe

Now double-check and make sure that only this item above is highlighted, then click "Kill process". Click on "back" button.

Still on Misc Tools
Click on Delete a File On Reboot
Click once on the file below to select it:

C:\WINDOWS\tool2.exe

do the same for this one:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Folders\ibm00001.exe

Click on "back" button to exit the Process Manager.

Now, back at the main screen of HijackThis, click on Scan and put a check in front of the following

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Shell] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Folders\ibm00001.exe"

Close all other browsers/windows/applications and click on "fix checked".

Restart your computer.

========================

Please download Ccleaner

Click on Options, Select Advanced Now UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours"
Make sure the Cleaner block on the left is selected. (Do not use the "Issues" block) Choose the Windows tab.
Check everything EXCEPT Advanced part of the Menu. If you don't want to loose your login passwords to certain sites, click on Options, select cookies and move the ones you want to keep to the "cookies to keep" section, by highlighting and using the arrows in the middle.
Choose Run Cleaner. This process could take a while.
When CCleaner shows how much has been removed, cleaning is finished. Click Exit.

If you have more than one users, run Ccleaner for every user.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner
Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended (If available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
      • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post and a new HijackThis log please.
