Hi

I have XP (SP3) on an HP laptop. In the last two days the unit has stopped functioning twice while on the net. The only control still working is the mouse, but no button responds (taskbar buttons don't show they are being accessed when the mouse is placed on them). CTL-ALT-Delete does not work. Removing the battery is the only way to reboot, after which all is well.

I run only Avast (free version) virus program. Most recent updates were the automatic Windows updates and a new version of Avast (again, free).

The stoppages seem random and not associated with any internet page or function I have attempted.

Thanks for any help.

John

Run a diagnostic test on both RAM and Hard drive if your HP laptop(model not mentioned) supports these features. Run Minitoolbox here and include List Installed Programs.

My apologies for not responding. Family issues.

I will send a list of programs if the thread is still open.

Again, sorry for the delay.

Its ok. Hope everything will be fine. :)

The SpyHunter 4 Service

Just to add also, I see Spyware Hunter installed on startup service so might wanna hear if this is a legit spyware remover from malware experts.

Thanks.

I'm having additional problems now. so 1 question and 1 note:

Where can I get the list of programs?

I noticed in the processes one I haven't seen before ~e5.0001. Can't start games and web downloads don't work.

Also, I'm trying to get the list from the control panel, but nothing shows up in the window. This is new as well. seems as if no .exe files will run.
