My friend is currently having a problem with his computer that MAY or may not be related to the the smitfraud line of spyware. He was experiencing the spysheriff infection so i went to his house and ran smitrem, he didn't have a antispyware program and therefore couldn't delete the remaining files the smitrem failed to get. The next day he phones me and tells me the black screen with the warning is back, so i lead him through the steps to running smitrem and he does so. The next day he calls me up again and he says that when he starts up his computer it boots up and loads to the screen with all the accounts (he has multiple accounts) and when he or any of the other account holders try to login the following happens...they type their password it continues to the desktop, but instead of loading after the password is typed and entered it just shows a black screen, thats it, no start menu, no icons, no toolbar, no anything, just his mouse pointer and a black screen. What could be causing this and how would he fix it?
