Last night I downloaded and installed Team Fortress 2 via Steam. I also downloaded an updated video driver via Steam.
I believe that the video driver finished installing, then I opened TF2, and the system hung for ages.
Specifically:
Black screen (the game starting, I believe)
A message saying that the computer failed to respond to me pressing ctrl+alt+del
Back to unresponsive desktop and steam window.
Repeat.

Eventually I just rebooted the computer.
Now, after the POST screen, I just get a black command-prompt-style screen, blank except for a blinking cursor, unresponsive.
No option for safe mode or anything.

Obviously this requires a repair disk.
Can anyone help walk me through what I need to revert to fix this
and/or system restore from a recovery media?

HP Pavilion p7-1054 PC
Did not come with a Win 7 disk, but I do have one. Different versions of Win 7, though.
I accessed setupapi.app.log with my recovery disk and see a lot of entries right before the crash.
I can attach said file if you'd like (I read about using it to remove bad drivers)
Can't do a system restore because I can't select my Windows install, it doesn't show up in the System Recovery menu.
