Hello,

Much the same as others I have been infected with the trojan.dropper.bcminer and need help. Is the computer salvageable? Has my private information been compromised?

I would like to know if I went ahead and did a reinstall while leaving my work files, work program installers as well as other various utility installers do I still run the risk of the computer being reinfected? My thought was to create a new partition move all files I want to keep there then format the remaining partitions and instal a fresh copy of vista. I have about 40 gigs of information that would take forever to burn to dvd. I'm completely open however to any thoughts you guys have.

I also received the following errors multiple times while running the minitoolbox.exe:

NSlookup.exe Ordinal Not Found
The ordinal 1108 could not be found located in the dynamic link library WSOCK32.dll

This happened 4 or 5 times, each time windows would look for a solution without finding any.

Restarting and going to run aswMBR.exe next!

During all these scans Avast blocked the following:

Win32:Atraps-pf [trj]
Win32:Malware-gen

This happened numerous times. Even after running aswMBR.

You're infected with ZeroAccess rootkit.
That will require elevated help.

Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<== starting at Step 6. If you cannot complete a step, skip it and continue.

Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include a description of your computer issues, what you have done to resolve them, and a link to this topic.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient.

If HelpBot replies to your topic, PLEASE follow Step One so it will report your topic to the team members.

At this point I would ask part of my original question, will creating a new partition, backing up my files there and installing a fresh copy of vista allow the infection to persist?

The only sure way to get it of a rootkit (aside from cleaning) is to format the drive.
