How can I install and boot from linux using just an ipod shuffle?

The topic says it all. I have a spare iPod with me and I don't listen to music on it anymore. Can I just format it, install linux on it and start working? Or is there more to it?

That's for a Mac. I'm on Windows(or Linux). I use an iPod Shuffle 4th gen - the Windows version linked to in the FAQ says it only supports till 3rd gen.

Can't I just use something like Rufus or Unetbootin?
