So I just bought a disc I need to use but when I press the button to open the drive it won't open, I tried putting a toothpick in that little hole it did open and I put the disc inside, but the computer did not recognize the disc so I took it back out. Also when I go to my computer there are no CD/DVD drives.

Could I please get some help? That would be awesome!

Thanks

Since nothing happens when you press the button to open the drive, I would suspect it is either not getting power or the drive is dead. I would turn off your pc, open the case and make sure that the power connection to your drive is plugged in securely. If it still doesn't work, you could try to use another power connection (if there are any available). If it still doesn't work, I would suspect the drive is dead.

When I open the case I see 6000 wires, no idea where to start. Lol.

Haha. When you have the case open, locate your drive. There should be 2 cables plugged into it (1 power, 1 data). The other end of the data cable will be plugged into the motherboard. The other cable is obviously the power cable.

On the back of the drive are two or three wires, One power, one data and sometimes one for audio.

Make sure they plugged in tightly.

If you can, take a picture of the back of the drive and post it here. If you use the full editor you can see the Browse button which is where you attach the picture.

Good Luck
Roger

You can also try this to see if it will make the drive available in My Computer. It may not help with it not opening but you may be able to install your software if the following works. I've had DVD/CD drives disappear from My Computer and this method has always worked to make it reappear.

Go to Control Panel. Open Administrative Tools>>Computer Management.

Click Device Manager in the pane on the left side.

In Device Manager click the arrow next to DVD/CD Rom Drives.

RIGHT click the drive entry, then UNINSTALL.

Confirm that you want to uninstall.

After it uninstalls reboot your computer.

Windows *should* automatically detect the drive and reinstall it.

After you get the notification that the device is ready to use, go My Computer to see if it is listed.

(if you don't get a notification check anyway)

If it is listed pop in the disk and see what happens.

If Queen-Evie's fix doesn't help you can also try this from Microsoft.

Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs

The Microsoft page has a automated fix it.
