hi there I recently had a smart fortress trojan removed and was cleaning up. I had this old file sptd that I wanted to get rid of so I ran a file called SPTDinst-v181-x86.exe Description:

SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD) layer (32 bit). from deamon tools which was supposed to uninstall it. what the the file did though for reasons unknown is it knocked out my firewall- it knocked out my internet connection and messed up my desktop icons. the same symptoms I had with smart fortress basically. I had to go to another computer download combofix on usb stick and run it on this computer. it seemed to fix the problem however my usb mouse no longer works in safe mode. my sandisc usb stick will not work either the light gos on for a sec and gos out.it is not showing in my comp drives like it usually would. they work fine in reg mode. hopefully someone here can help I tried to uninstall and reinstall in safe mode but it would not work. thanks.

Or you could reboot, go into the BIOS /setup on bootup ,usually f2 or del key to get there ,and find the legacy USB driver option ,Make sure this is enabled and you should then be able[maybe not ] to use the mouse and keyboard in safe mode.so many different bios setups ,so im not actually sure where you will find this setting in your bios info

For questions re ComboFix complications, you are probably best served in another forum. I am moving your topic to AV, Firewall, etc. where those familiar with CF may provide some assistance.

Create a restore point before trying this fix

DOwnload

Safeboot

Launch it,at the end a log should be generated, restarted the PC into safemode and check your device manager

Uninstall USB host controllers and mouse driver, restart the PC

NOTE:Restart the PC into safemode

Let me know if it gets installed at bootup

Also can you check if your USB controllers work in safemode with networking?
