Hello!

I've noticed my Windows 7 laptop behaving strangely since yesterday, and would greatly appreciate assistance identifying and solving the issue. The machine will, without warning, crash to a black screen and become unresponsive. The power stays on and the hard drive light suspiciously stays lit; the only thing I can do is manually restart the computer. (Upon reboot the system seems fine.) This has happened twice yesterday, when I was working on some Excel spreadsheets with a music application in the background, and once just now, when I left the computer to idle. In addition, Windows Action Center reports this:

"Remove the TrojanDownloader:Win32/Adload.DA virus from your computer
Windows has detected TrojanDownloader:Win32/Adload.DA, a known computer virus, on your computer.

To remove the virus from your computer, follow these instructions:

Go to the following website:
Microsoft Safety Scanner
Click Download Now, and then follow the instructions on the screen."

It's the exact same thing that this post is reporting, incidentally. Action Center also tells me that this Trojan has caused my computer to stop working properly once, last occurring on May 31. Unfortunately I don't know how long this alert has been there for, since I almost never check Action Center. I thought it was odd that Windows is reporting a thing like this, but it appears to be a legitimate system message.

Anyway, Avast hasn't picked up any sort of suspicious activity yet. Last night, I ran the Microsoft Safety Scanner as suggested by Windows, which didn't find anything. I then ran MBAM's quick scan, which found one Trojan.Agent file and removed it. I was able to use the computer for several hours without problems after that. But the black screen 'crash' has happened again just a little while ago, and I'm running MBAM's full scan as I write this. I haven't had a malware infection in years, but even then I haven't quite seen anything like this before - and I can't seem to find much information on Adload.DA online. I'd be very grateful for any help on this. Thank you in advance!

So far I don't see anything malicious.

Download Bootkit Remover to your desktop.

  • Unzip downloaded file to your Desktop.
  • Double-click on boot_cleaner.exe to run the program (Vista/7 users, right click on boot_cleaner.exe and click Run As Administrator).
  • It will show a Black screen with some data on it.
  • Right click on the screen and click Select All.
  • Press CTRL+C
  • Open a Notepad and press CTRL+V
  • Post the output back here.

==============================================

Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:
  • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
  • Zipped Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  • Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.
  • Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.

    Posted Image
  • GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
  • If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.
  • Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
  • Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.
  • Exit GMER and be sure to re-enable your anti-virus, Firewall and any other security programs you had disabled.

IMPORTANT! If for some reason GMER refuses to run, try again.
If it still fails, try to UN-check "Devices" in right pane.
If still no joy, try to run it from Safe Mode.

Ah, I guess that action center alert can be dismissed, then. I'll see if the black screen thing occurs again and post in the Windows forum if it does. Thank you very much for your time!
